did a quick read up on Rhodium, and seems like its actually a very rare metal that's not easy to manage. this here wikipedia entry explains a lot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodium
this para comes in somewhere in the middle of the entry:
"Rhodium has also been used for honors or to symbolize wealth, when more commonly used metals such as silver, gold, or platinum are deemed insufficient. In 1979, the Guinness Book of World Records gave Paul McCartney a rhodium-plated disc for being history's all-time best-selling songwriter and recording artist."
probably explains the price of the upgrade then. man, i sure do feel blessed right now.
