Haha yeah. I'm waiting for the information on upgrade pricing as well. Well I'll definitely let you know once I get them in how it is.
On the other hand, I just received my revised my ASG 1.2's and I have to say, they are straight up BASS MONSTERS. Even compared to my Phiaton MS400's the sub-bass just explodes out from these with thunderous force. Extremely impressed. Again to reiterate what others have said the mids are a lot more tamed down, though the high seems a little bit weakened as well. However, I'm loving these straight out of the box so I can't wait to see how they fair after some more time.
On the other hand, having these at the same time as my AS-1b's allows me to make a nice comparison in the upcoming weeks. But initial impressions shows that the AS-1's are much more balanced sounding.
Bass wise, the ASG's are unparalleled, they extend deep and powerfully, making my whole head shake. My bass port on the AS-1s are currently out of operation due to the tool not fitting the adjuster on my right ear piece but turning the left piece showed that the sound could easily be adjusted to match if not exceed the bass of the ASG's due to better sealing. However, as someone who prefer's the sound of the etymotics series, I keep the AS-1's toned down.
Mid-range wise the ASG's are much more calmed down compared to the ASG 1.1 which have a sweetness that has been slightly removed from these. In fact, while most people gave strong criticism of the initial mid-range of the ASG 1.0's, I definitely was with tinyman in that I thought that the mid-range of the original ASG's were its defining and best quality. However in the 1.2's the calmed down sound is a lot more friendly for most songs I've listened to (no more spikes), but seem to lose a bit of the massive sound stage that the 1.0/1.1's possessed. However, on the CIEM's, the adjustment allows one to regain the lush mids without the spikes and maintain a equally large if not larger soundstage as the original ASGs.
The trebles on the AS-1s are very much present and have a nice sparkle that the ASG's does not possess. These are the weakest part of the ASG's so far, which has been consistent since the first revision. However, the CIEM possesses the unique ability to make the trebles shine through through the valve adjustments. With some EQ, the AS-1's easily reach the sparkles of my UE700 but with much better lushness and balance all around (though they are slightly slower than the UE700s). However, the ASG's require quite a bit more EQ and never fully reach this level.
Overall, I'm highly impressed by the new revision of the ASG's as I can't help but find myself getting lost in anything with a beat. Yet, this also shows me why the AS-1's costs several times the ASG's as there is a marked difference between these and the generic. Having the bass port allows one to adjust to several different settings.
Finally, this also makes me extremely curious for what more the AS-2's have to offer considering how wonderful the AS-1s are already.
