I'm not sure the DX90 supports DXD.. it's not listed as a feature on the iBasso website. http://ibasso.com/en/products/show.asp?ID=83
Maybe you should write to iBasso support.
I thought DX90 can downscale it to 176.4 kHz / 24 bit PCM for playback internally? Technically, the ES9018K2M DACs inside should be able to do up to 384 kHz / 32-bit DXD / PCM format.

Looks like this feature hasn't been implemented (yet). That might be the reason it's not mentioned as feature on the website.
Contacting iBasso's support gives them the chance to clarify if they are willing and able to implement this feature, if it's possible.
so now that the dx90 has been out for a while, anyone want to compare it to the zx1? wanted to get the zx1 when it came out but it sold out fast, then i heard news of the dx90 and now i dont know which to get

Well, if you ever want to see how a great UI works on a good sounding DAP then I do recommend the ZX1. You can always sell a couple to acquire funds.
I also have too many DAP's. Hopefully will hear the X5 soon as well.
My list of more recent DAPS that I've heard:
By sound:
DX100>=AK100 (modified)>DX90>Sony XZ1>DX50>Cowon Z2/J3>X3
Do you think it will be better to connect an amp via LO to maximize the "true LO" feature of the dx90 even using SE iems? Will it be better than the HO alone?
Just wanted to say that the dx90 is my first true DAP since my original iPod (3rd gen and then a zune, before I cared about GOOD sound and high quality components and files). Wow, I knew there was so much more to the music I enjoy everyday but the dx90 has taken it to a whole new level and then some! This impression is straight out of the box with 20+- hours of burn in on the woodies. Can't wait to see what happens at the hundred hour mark!
And I must say... (Props to Dsnuts for answering many questions for me) the JVC fx850 flagship woodies and dx90 are a match made in hifi heaven. *paradise between my ears*
