Using an extension cable won't degrade the sound in any way, so that's probs your best bet. You can get some dirt cheap cables off Amazon.

There's no such thing as "too low quality" for headphones. That cable will work fine as will any other extension cable.

How is the drive power? And the overall match of the DAP with the phones?

I plan on purchasing a pair of dt 990's from amazon for around 155$ (An amazing deal) and was wondering what i should use to drive them. I don't know a ton about audio equipment, but i would be getting the 250 ohm version, and im sure i would need an amp/sound-card/dac (I still don't fully understand what a dac is, i believe it's just a external USB amp?) I may also be using it on my phone so a portable amp would be nice as well. I have a 300$ budget, but 40 of that will also be spent on a mod mic, so i have roughly around 100$ left over for peripherals, i might be willing to spend a bit more if it's needed, but does anyone have any suggestions? Ive looked around at the filo series, but was wanting a bit more of in-depth info. Coming from a guy that bought beats in a recent life and was wanting a pair of cans that aren't head squeezing sound muddy.  Thanks in advance. Can't wait till i finally get to hear them!

Dac is basically a fancy word for sound card. It converts the digital signal from the computer to an analog signal that you can hear. The 990's are the furthest from muddy, almost to a fault. The first day you use them they might sound harsh. Overtime your ears will get used too it.  I personally like the fiio amp/dac combos, although I am not using one to power my 990's. I got a dac/amp that also has dual XLR out for my speakers. $155 for the 990's is a steal, I got mine for $120 on amazon a couple of months ago.

I have a cheapie Fiio E5 $30 amp that powers the 990's. The difference between that and my $300 amp/dac is maybe 5%. So I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you get.

I got a used cMoyBB on eBay, and a newLIttle Bear P-1 (from China) hybrid tube amp.
Of the 2 the Little Bear is more powerful, but the Cmoy sounds better.
I dont have experience with other amps.
I think the Cmoy actually powers it really well with the OPA2227 inside it.
