My beloved WD5000 RL Edition received today a huge complement from a fellow Headfier. He not only liked their looks better than the stock D5000, DX1000 and Edition 9 but he also prefered their sound even over the mighty Edition 9.

The D2000, for me, do quite respectably with classical. However, the K501 are within easy reach precisely for early, baroque, classical, romantic, etc. : )

With the closed D2000 and the open K501, I'm wanting for no other headphones at the moment--maybe just the APS V3 at some point aong the way . . .

Can you explain why you still want the mod if it's such a slim difference?

The way I read it is that N20 really doesn't discern that much difference between the D2000 and the MD5000, so buying the D5000 in his mind isn't warranted. He's just as far ahead simply getting the D2000 ML-modded and saving the extra expenditure on the D5000.

I've had the same internal debate between the D2000 or the D5000. Ideally, I would like to a/b the two in the "stock" configuration. Personally, I don't have an overwhelming desire for the MarkL mods on the D2000; I think they sound fine as-is. I would, however, like to get a cable upgrade on the D2000.

Correct. The MD5000DE recabled Jenna, sound awesome, but to me, and my wallet, the price for the small difference isn't worth it. For some, it is, but I'm only 21, so a $1,000 headphone isn't exactly practical.

The D2000 sound just phenomenal, and the Markl mod helps tame some of the brightness, and tighten the bass. As well as slightly add a tad more soundstage/headstage, and IMO, increases the comfort just a notch.

So the D2000 intrigues me. I just need to make sure it meets some criteria.

How detailed are they? I'm a big fan of detail. Another thing that kinda goes along with detail is the instrument seperation. It must be good.

How are the mids? I simply cannot stand recessed mids. They must be quite present. Lastly, are they bright (like a grado) or darker (like a senn)?

They are detailed. Instrument separation is pretty good too. But the highs and lows overshadow the mids.

What are you trying to compare the D2000's too? They are detailed and offer good instrument separation, but compared to the Sony SA5000's, this wouldn't even be close. I believe the D2000's offer more detail/separation than any Grado under RS2.

How are the mids.... compared to? They are bright like grado's, but with the markl mod, they are neither dark nor bright.

I love the detail and seperation in my ER6i and I'm looking for something that has a similar amount.

What I mean is if the mids are very up front or if theyre recessed. According to richierich, they are recessed so maybe the D2000's aren't for me.

Oh and when I said are they bright, i meant the overall sound sig.
