BAHAHAHA there's no sibilance, OH HHAHAAH the bass is much punchier!  Oh, that brings tears!
I think it's hilarious.

Well the question was not "which iem beats the D7000?" but rather to share information about the pairs we've owned that might be similar in sound signature. So it's quite meaningless at this point to talk about an iem that cost almost the twice as D7000 and say that they beat the D7000. That may be so but again, I don't think one can beat the other one or the other way around. Only their owners prefer one over the other. This is not really a "how many horse power" debate...

I didn't mean to be mean or anything, if I came across one, I apologize in advance!

Interested if anyone has compared these to JVC dx1000?

FWIW I had the DX700 (which I actually sold to Rob ).

I would say the two are more or less on par, although I am not a fan of the JVC construction or comfort... not that they are uncomfortable... they just really are MASSIVE headphones and the D7000 are probably the most comfortable ones I have used.

From memory the DX700 are actually very nice headphones... great soundstage - really great, and pretty deep bass but I just couldnt shake this "odd" sound they had. I enjoyed them very much but when the credit card bill came, and something had to go, I chose them over my D7000 and W1000X.

I think overall the D7000 bests the W1000X and DX 700 in terms of detail and my subjective preference, but anyone could be happy with either. The DX1000 are probably even more like the D7000 just with a bigger soundstage and "odd" or "involving mids". To be honest I regret selling them even if they were hard to manage. Would still take my D7000 over them though from memory.

I am sure rob will comment once he sees yours post though.

I've posted quite a few times over the last couple years about it. I really like both, but they are quite different. I prefer the DX1000, no doubt. I like the slightly lush mids of the J VC better than the slightly recessed mids of the Denon, and the JVC's have the tighter bass. I also prefer the slightly shelved down treble of the DX1000 versus the slightly aggressive treble of the D7000.

But not everyone will share this view.

Some time ago I was agonising over whether to purchase the D7000 or the W5000. Like many Head-Fi'ers, I was unable to audition either of these phones prior to purchase. After much research I ended up opting for the W5000.

I finally had the opportunity to audition the D7000 at a local meet so the usual caveats apply. It's a very nice looking headphone and most comfortable to wear. Upon listening to it I heard ample bass and crisp highs that bordered on being a little sharp at times. This headphone had a very clean presentation to my ears.

However, I found the midrange lacking; especially when compared to the other headphones that I had been auditioning. This made the D7000 not as musically satisfying for me.

I love mids as well but I find headphones with toned down bass and treble and elevated mids almost to come across as monotone, my SM3 is starting to feel that way at least. The other thing though is I don't think the D7000 is to recessed because it's almost as forward as my SM3 which is a known midcentric IEM. I still like the SM3 for some things but it often feels off in comparison to the D7000, and no other headphone has the vibrancy I feel with the D7000 and yet it strangely is also very relaxing as well if the music is. One thing though, I like my volume fairly low which I think plays a part in why I like the D7000 because it has lots of vibrancy at lower volumes. I might find it a bit harsh if I listened at louder levels. So that might also play a lot in someones purchasing decision.

^ I listened to the D7000 after hearing the RS1i, Stax SR-404 LE and SR-507, LCD-2, T1 and HD800. So it was in very good company. However, I did feel that the D7000 was missing something that these other phones weren't and I attributed that to a recessed midrange. This was most noticeable when comparing it to the LCD-2 and SR-507; neither of which are wanting for bass presence to my ears. Nor was I listening to these phones at loud volume levels.

I've never considered myself to be partial to mid-centric phones. For example, I've always preferred the v shaped sound signature of the TF10 to the so called mid-range king - the SE530. So make of that what you will. Although I've not compared these phones for quite a while so who knows, maybe my preferences have changed over time.

Low volume listening really accentuates recessed mids.  The D7000 is really a can that likes to be pumped up IMO and has a nice grin factor as a result.

I think MrSpenkelink's opinion is pretty much spot on, and many a head-fier have shared his impressions.

The bass and highs are more prominent than the midrange but I also don't really find the midrange to be an issue.

The D7000 has a sound to love or hate, and as far as I have read the actual driver technology is actually quite good for current day dynamics... so there is a lot to love but they are not for everyone.

There certainly are head-fiers that absolutely dig the sound as a number have chosen the D7000 over the HD 800 which is nothing to scoff at

I for one am glad that all headphones don't sound the same
