Dapper Digital Audio Player sync utility for Mac released on the App Store.

  Jeremy,

Some more difficulties:

1. while scanning the library and while transferring files, all tabs freeze - you can not change to the utils tab for instance during that time
2. scanning a library for a 128GB card takes ages
3. transferring even onto a fast card in the Mac slot  takes more then 2 hours, way too long
4. can´t see progress visually while transferring files, only if clicking onto the slider then an update happens
5. slider: from left to right, minimum is 11GB, where my internal drive in the DX90 has only 8GB

Seems like there is still a lot of work needed on this not so cheap program.

Cheers

Erich

Hey Erich

On 1, You should be able to change stuff on the fly. Nothing should "hang up" at all, as we show in the videos. What OS, Mac etc do you have?
On 2 - Yes, this is a limitation of the speed of USB. Once its done, we cache it so the second scan in instantaneous.
On 3 - Yes, this is just the speed of the file system - I did a 400GB comparison between Dapper and copying files in finder. 2 second difference. You'll find that DAPs are just slow for file access.
On 4 - This is related to 1 - you should have full access. I cant replicate this on my side - maybe you can shoot me info on your system
On 5 - Which slider? The main slider divides into 1/26th of the library, by letter. So I suppose if you have a lot of A artists or Z artists it could certainly be an issue. Let me noodle this one.

Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Hikx1V5jLM

Dapper syncs 400MB in less than 3 seconds... Its the DAP, not Dapper.

I copied close to 900MB in 3 seconds - about 9 minutes to fill 128GB:

Hi Jeremy,

On 1, You should be able to change stuff on the fly. Nothing should "hang up" at all, as we show in the videos. What OS, Mac etc do you have?
I use the latest OS X 10.10.1
On 2 - Yes, this is a limitation of the speed of USB. Once its done, we cache it so the second scan in instantaneous.
I use the sd card slot in my MacBookPro
On 3 - Yes, this is just the speed of the file system - I did a 400GB comparison between Dapper and copying files in finder. 2 second difference. You'll find that DAPs are just slow for file access.
During transfer, all tabs are frozen, can´t even go to utils and interrupt the file transfer. Even the force program to close does´t work, as Dapper isn´t in the list like all other running programs.
On 4 - This is related to 1 - you should have full access. I cant replicate this on my side - maybe you can shoot me info on your system
The progress bar on the R/H bottom does´t update while transferring, it only updates when clicking on the slider, every click - one update. Have been clicking on it hundreds of times.
On 5 - Which slider? The main slider divides into 1/26th of the library, by letter. So I suppose if you have a lot of A artists or Z artists it could certainly be an issue. Let me noodle this one.
Correct, I have quite a few "A´s", but I want to put selected files (hi-res) into the internal drive, as that drive seems to be faster, so a letter selection does´t work for me. Ticking a box in a list of available files would be the best selection procedure for dividing internal and external (SD card) storage.

I have mixed files, ALAC, MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF, DSD, some are large. Many files when they are playing in DX90, have lost their artist or song names, no picture either, some say (null), and I did check every single file before transfer, even used the program MP3 scan+repair, still loosing info.

Cheers

Erich

Why do you show version V2.07 (3195) in your Youtube video, when I have V2.06 (3176) ??? What is the newest version and why isn´t Apple updating it?

Dec 6, 2014 at 8:27 AM Post #19 of 67
Correct - Apple is crazy slow at reviewing and releasing code.

The lastest is now 3199 - you can always grab it on our site: http://map-pin.com/trial-software/dapper.html

Please ping me on support.map-pin.com and we can work on seeing why your interface is locking up - it shouldnt be. That way we can swap files etc and I can keep track of your issues officially.

Another thing:
My Itunes playlist says 9356 tracks, your program says, using same playlist, 9584 tracks. ????

I was able to download the latest version V2.07(3199), still file transfer takes ages. In your Youtube video it is fast, but with my Mac it is very slow. It takes at least 10-20 sec for each song. Even with the SD card in the Mac SD slot instead of inside the DX90.
And the progress bar does´t move by itself, it only jumps to update when I click on the slider. So I have to keep clicking on the slider all the time to see progress showing on the progress bar.

Jeremy,
Found a real problem here:
Your program has created a folder in my DX90 internal directory called .album_img. This is a real problem, as all update files are .img files and my DX90 doesn´t update anymore as it does not recognize my update files. How can I get rid of that .album_img file, Windows doesn´t allow me to delete or rename.

Please reach out at support.map-pin.com

If love to hop on a call with you and straighten this all out.

Dapper doesn't write any .album_img files - only whatever you have selected in iTunes and folder.jpg files

I have rewritten a lot of the multi threading but I need you to log a case on the site in order to share files logs etc
I posted 3201 this morning and extended trials to 30 days

Today 2.07 hit the app store and I put 2.08 up on our site. I redid how the app access iTunes, how it does multi threading and how it saves settings.

In our move to the app store, we found several Apple bugs which require workarounds... 2.08 has been submitted to Apple,, but will take longer than usual because we'll have to ask for some exceptions to Apple rules since they have bugs:

If you have installed and run 2.07 from the App Store, any versions downloaded from our site will read you license and unlock automagically.

Issues solved by 2.08:

Problem 1: Users are unable to select an iTunes library - iTunesLibrary.framework only access the last opened library.
Problem 2: While Dapper is open, new items added to iTunes are inaccessible using the current iTunesLibrary.framework.
Problem 3: There is no API to determine when iTunes was last updated in order to determine if new tracks are available.

Big disappointment:
Every time I start Dapper it tells me "trial expired". I have paid for it and Itunes doesn´t recognize it as having paid for it!!!! Can´t even download from Itunes now. This sucks.

If you've bought on the app store, here is the link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dapper/id903223330?ls=1&mt=12

If you bought from Apple, they should fix it. If you got a license direct, visit support.map-pin.com  and we can get you a freebie code.

This is such an awesome thing for X1 users, thank you for making it easy. I  was just going to manually export m3u lists and play around with them but it looks like your program will read the xml and pull the appropriate tracks dropping them on the DAP.

I have a few questions:

1.  Will Dapper update the DAP leaving whatever I manually dropped on it in place?  Or does it wipe out the card in favor of the Dapper sync?
2.  Any plans to support playlists that do NOT have the prefix of Dapper_exampleplaylist on them?
3.  Do you test this application with FiiO devices specifically or just generic DAP players?  Any recommendations on FiiO firmware to use if you do?

Thanks again.

Cheers!

1... By default, yes - but you can in the settings tell it not to delete stuff on the DAP.
2... Nope - it renames those playlists on the way - so  Dapper_HiFi shows up as HiFi on the device.
3... I tested on X3 and have an X5 to test.  Also tested iBasso and Astell&Kern You can download and try it free :)
