Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

  hi lightman,

hugo 2 is beyond my means. hugo is on great offer and im auditioning and hoping to buy tomorrow. managing the way hugo is operated is central to my considerations. could you have a look at my posts on this page and get back to me. till now people are really helping but no one has been able to answer my query

I had a look at the posts and it seems to me that they have answered your question very well.

I would take it one step at a time and have a good listen to it before deciding what to do next.

Remember to bring some of your own music and headgear to your audition.

If I were buying a Hugo at the moment I would be driving a hard bargain and would probably be to told to **** off by the salesman!

cheers lightman,

im testing moon 230had, naim v1, and hugo. i already know hugo has won. its down to 1125 real bargain. ive also figured out how im comfortable using it. 1) playing and charging from full   2) disconnecting from charger and turning off   3)  using again and repeating till the battery goes down to 50 percent and then charging. so maybe real charge every 5/6 uses. 24/7 plugged in is not for me.

The truth is that no one can give you an answer if they don't know what % of battery drain will occur on average each day.

if you start with a battery that is 100%, and your charge/play sessions deplete the battery by 2% a day, then it will take 40 days for the battery to drop to 20%, which would be in the ballpark for a full charge.
If your sessions deplete the battery by 5% a day, then it will take 16 days to drop to 20%.

it is simple maths, but if people have to guess what will be the %depletion per day, then the estimate for the no. of days will also be a pure guess.

if you have a good deal on a Hugo, then just buy it, and with a bit of trial and error you will discover your answer.

I don't want to be unfair, but you have been posting the same question on 3 threads, which is against Head-Fi rules, and the Mods would take a dim view of the situation.

point taken. i suppose by broadcasting my concerns on 3 related threads i hope to get 3 times as much feedback. not a good idea youre right. initially would be 100 percent. then from 98,96, 94. maybe my question was impossible to answer but your reply to just confirm my idea here was what i was looking for. thanks mk out of interest why is it against the rules to post the same technical type question on more than board. it just means someone is looking for solutions?

It's a fair question and yes there is no absolute answer to it but you can't proliferate your question via multiple threads according to the rules of head-fi

For a start it will triple the amount of disk space required on the forum server, and that has to be paid for by someone eventually.

The rules/guidelines explain the rationale on this page http://www.head-fi.org/a/posting-guidelines

where it says '
Only make the same post in ONE thread.
Cross-posting in many threads is frowned upon and may be treated as spam and your account possibly banned. If everyone spam-posted, the forums would quickly become useless, so we are pretty strict about this kind of behaviour.'

No one here wants you to get banned, but the Mods do monitor the Chord threads, and were actively warning posters during the kerfuffle that arose after CES.

Unless you are super anal about plugging and unplugging around the exact times you are listening to music through your hugo, there will be idle moments where the battery is charging.  So, even if you are listening 80-90% of the time to DSD files that may drain the battery a little while plugged in, in practice, the idle time should top you off.

I listen to my mojo most of the day.  Sometimes plugged in to usb power and sometimes not.  Even on the heaviest of work days, I still get up to take a break and most of the time I make a note to turn off the unit (and plug it in, if it isn't already).  This means I never have to worry about it and it gives the device a break now and then.

thanks automatic that is the kind of information i was looking for. with regards to the duplicate posting thing. it is quite obvious that there was no malice meant. also now that i know this rule i will stick by it. but when i made those posts my intention was to get information regarding the best way for me to charge hugo. i haven't read every little thing in the guidelines and rules as ive only been on the forum a few months. one should only be warned if they knew the rule in advance and then continued to go against it. in my case i did not know and had no idea. would you tell a young person who jumped into a swimming pool at night but could not read the "no swimming at night warning" because it was too dark that they can never swim again? have now deleted some of them.

I never thought that there was any malice, but i thought it better to gently point the rule out, before someone else red flagged you - it was clear that at least one person on the mojo thread was getting irritated.

The mods are strict - at least two people disappeared from the chord threads in january, and several posts were deleted or edited.

Getting back to pre-ordering:  Are there any Canadians offering pre-ordering?
I'm sure there are some dealers taking orders. Check with Bluebirdmusic.com they are the distributor and will give you your purchase options.

Would like to use my QP1R direct with my Empire IEM and QP1R + Chord Hugo2 with HEKv2. The problem is that Hugo2 needs USB input to sound best according to Rob at Chord and still need to use the QP1R as my music server for the Hugo2. Is Toslink optical the only possibility or is there any way to get USB out from the QP1R? Otherwise will need a new portable server other than a computer to travel with to get USB out to HUGO. If the latter is my only solution for USB then what small alternative DAP has 200 GB microSD storage and USB out to feed the HUGO2 when traveling?

My last listening test with the production Hugo 2 was USB and optical sounded the same whilst using headphones, and using a high spec MSI laptop that had optical outputs; I could not reliably tell a SQ difference between optical or USB using the same lap-top. Nor can I measure any significant difference either from the two inputs.

So my advice is not to worry about it.

Rob
