AGAIN... everyone hears differently AND everyone prefers a different sound.
Some prefer more bass than others.
Some prefer more high end than others.
Some prefer boosted mids than others
Some prefer recessed mids than others
Some prefer the widest soundstage than others
Some prefer a more intimate soundstage than others.

There is no such thing as the best headphone for everyone.
It's a bit like asking what is the best prescription glasses for everyone.


Sorry, but you have to read what others are saying about the HP in your price range.
Even then you'll get conflicting opinions.

Well a 10 dollar headphone might have more bass then a 300 dollar that doesn't mean that the 10 dollar ones are better

Agreed, the concept of "better" or "worse" sound is extremely subjective. IMO, the HD600 does no wrong, but at the same time, they may be very boring to some people as a result, and not what they're looking for.
 
EDIT: just saw your reply. Sound quality itself is also just as difficult to define...what sounds good to one person isn't the same to the next. There are very few objective factors in this.

Well I'm coming from ath-m50 I like them a lot but I'm hoping for a more open and forward/exciting headphone with more detail

K712 sounds like something you would like then. I own a Q701, and have heard the 712 has even more detail in the treble and also not quite as forward mids, but it's bound to be a much more exciting can than the HD600s, which don't have nearly that kind of head stage or exciting FR. It will certainly be a new and higher quality overall sound than the M50s you're coming from in that case.

Thanks,if this helps I also have tryed the skull candy aviators and they surprised me on how good they did with rock I loved them but they were lacking in bass

The Aviators had some pretty forward mids last I heard them, but their overall detail level and head stage are just crap compared to cans in the league we're talking about here.

To a bass head they might.

I haven't heard the 400s. They're very well regarded in general, I just don't know much about them.

let me ask you something....
 
When you play your stereo at home and in the car...do you turn up the treble and/or bass or do listen to it flat?
 
I'm also thinking the Senn HD600 might be your best bet unless you want powerful bass thumping your ears (bass head)
 
The HD600 is used by a lot of musicians to hear exactly what was recorded (reference headphones)
People who think the HD600 lacks bass prefer the HD650.
