Best headphones under 400 for classic rock

I would audition the Classic Senn HD600 & HD650's.
Also the new AKG K712 (or K612's if on a budget.)

You've got to audition them as we all hear differently.

BTW~These are open headphones so they're not great choices for outside.
Besides they need good amplification.
good luck!

Absolutely!

I have a pair boxed away somewhere.

My problem with Grados are that they fit on the ear instead of around...drives me nuts.

Anyways, don't forget to audition the Grados as only you know what is pleasing to you.

If you're unable to audition ANY of them read what people say here about the Senn HD600/HD650, the AKG K712's and whatever Grado you can afford.

Then, if you're forced to buy online be sure that the one you choose can be returned if you don't like them.

I listen to mostly Rock (Classic, Punk, Alternative etc) and these are all great HPs

Grado mids are more forward and give a nice detail to distorted guitars for example. Probably something you might like then. You may also enjoy AKG's 2k-forward mids in the K series. The 712 is a little more laid back, and the Q701 is more forward. Maybe other people will have more thoughts on these. It's tough to describe Grado mids. My favorite midrange can is the Q701 which I currently own. Lossless Beatles sound absolutely fantastic on it for example.

The HD600 is supremely neutral and very unhyped. I don't think it would be bad for anyone, and it sounds great for rock.

Are they better then the grados that are in the price point

Some people thinks so...others not.

AGAIN... everyone hears differently AND everyone prefers a different sound.
Some prefer more bass than others.
Some prefer more high end than others.
Some prefer boosted mids than others
Some prefer recessed mids than others
Some prefer the widest soundstage than others
Some prefer a more intimate soundstage than others.

There is no such thing as the best headphone for everyone.
It's a bit like asking what is the best prescription glasses for everyone.

Sorry, but you have to read what others are saying about the HP in your price range.
Even then you'll get conflicting opinions.
