Audeze LCD i4 TOTL In-Ear Monitor Discussion

loving the I4's . I had a pair earlier last year which didn't sound great so got returned. Later bought again and got an awesome pair that sound great out of the box - not sure if the tuning changed somewhere along the way - but these sound great without EQ - the first absolutely needed it.

For me the are one of the few IEMs that still sound great at low volumes even though they are open back - ideal when wearing around the house and others need to get your attention

Love 'em - and the ear hook mod is definitely worth it - can easily wear for 12 hour stints - never listened to so much music in my life - and surely that's the main goal!

I bought mine specifically to use at work. Full-size headphones would look too prominent and give the impression I'm physically isolating myself. Conventional IEMs block outside sound too much and need to be removed to talk to people. With the i4, I don't need to take them off, can just turn down the volume.

But since they sound great, I use the i4 at home too. :)

Recently purchased ifi audio micro iusb 3.0 for hugo 2 paired with lcd i4.
My chain is as follows: iMac--> Roon--> Audeze Preset --> AQ Jitterbug--> Micro iUsb 3.0(with ifi iPower)--> silver dragon usb-->Hugo 2--> Lcdi4...

Initial impressions:
The noise has decreased substantially.
The background is pitch black.
The soundstage is more wider, deeper & layering has improved.
The highs are very detailed, non- fatiguing & well extended.
The mids are cleaner & natural.
The bass goes deep, has great separation and adequate body without affecting the mids. Few months back i was unhappy with the bass response of hugo 2 as compared to cipher cable. Now I have found a sweet spot between the two.
The music is so transparent, airy.
The lcd i4 is really top class.:ksc75smile:

Just received my i4. Sold my first set but had been missing them.

I can see that they have a new packaging, but the case is no longer leather but just the regular iSine fiber case. Also the outer box used to be leather/pleather as well?

And one quick question for you guys: Is your iOS ligtning cable inside the packaging box? I can't find one anywhere. Already emailed Audeze but I just want to know if I missed anything.

I got mine less than a month ago. They did come with the leather storage case and the outer packaging was leather/pleather. The lightning cable is not included. It has to be requested and you’ll only get it free after your purchase is verified. The one thing I noticed is that on my cable I don’t have the red and blue rings that indicate left and right side. So maybe I have new old stock.

Yea, I am curious as well. Looks comfy and nice. @kubig123 , how did you make those sleeves? Shrink tubes?

Looks like we both came to the same conclusion as far as using the tubing goes. I recommended that solution a few months before you did back in September in my iSine 20 posts here and here
Glad your also finding it more comfortable. I do hope that at some point Audeze listen to these comments and bring out a 're-formable' version.

Yes, I got those tubes based on your suggestion - thank you. They really do improve the comfort. I had to 'grease' the ear clips a bit to make it easier to push the tubing.

I use my i4s all the time now - amazing set of 'cans.

I’ve still to listen to them. Been unlucky with the distributor so far but they are top of my list!

My EE Zeus XRAs are great but in comparison to the i4s, they sound constricted to me. I do give the EA kudos for hearing minute details but the i4s sound like I'm in a live concert, especially listening to opera and jazz

How can I tell I have cipher V1 or V2 cable?
All the i4 cipher cables are v2 cables. They only began offering the cipher for i4 when the v2 cipher was released (important to note that the i4 cipher cable is the same as the v2 cipher for iSines, but with a custom i4 firmware, so you can’t use the same cable for iSines as for i4).

So the firmware is 7.1.5 right?
I never use that cable until today, man! this cable is so good!
I have to say it really "wow"s me!
if this is the future let it be!!
No extra DAC no extra amp, no extra dap, just you headphone and your phone which can deliver incredible sound!
