AKG Q701 questions?

The Audio-GD NFB 12.1 is $215, which is roughly double of what the FiiO E9 goes for, but I find it to be a lot better. It doubles as a DAC as well and the amp section is still really good.

That's why ost of my amps are in the higher end type range, I like to listen at lower volumes as well, but cheaper amps don't have a lot of power for lower volumes, so they come off as lifeless or lacking energy. My Auditor does wonder for the T1 at low volumes and so does the V200.

Yeah, that's one thing I found better amplifiers to do better - low level listening (especially things like channel tracking). And not just for the K701. The rest was WRT to the OP's question about leakage.

...the E9 being around $80 new from Amazon (and maybe half that used).

A $40 E9?  Yes please.

I got mine for $256 total so keep that in mind.. $215 vs $110 for the E9 (on amazon currently) may seem like a no brainer but those shipping fees were ......big.

I've compared to the premiums, but I've never heard the Pros.

The Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250-Ohm verses the AKG Q701.
The DT990 Pro would have more bass (I own them).
The Q701 (guessing) would have stronger vocals (guessing).
The Q701s might also have a more likeable treble (guessing).

The DT990 Pro is brighter, bassier, and has less midrange. The Q701 is a smoother. warmer, and relaxing headphone.

Isn't power directly related to volume?  I'm a low level listener too and I'd like to know what is most 'powerful' and dynamic for lower level listening.

Even though I haven't specifically heard the Pros:

The bumps soften in time, or you can use saddle soap to speed that process along.
