Music from Cabo Verdo has a slightly Caribbean sound to it. At least it does to me. Maybe it just sounds like island life.

Lou Bega's background is interesting. He is half Italian and half Ugandan, born and raised in Germany & Italy. And spent time as a teen in Miama. So an interesting blend of different musical and cultural influences to draw on.

This is a cover of Manu Chao's song of the same name btw. Which was inspired by an older jazz/swing/big band song by Roy Eldridge.

Not really that similar, but Damian Marley's vocals kinda remind me of one of my childhood favorites: Eek-a-Mouse.




I used to sing "Wa Do Dem" ad nauseam when I was 12 or 13. I don't think I understood a single word, but I memorized the entire song.
