There are some hearable glitches on silent/quiet songs...

It's like there's a small skip of a frame in the song...

Try to download for instance: Camille - Ilo Veyou

They are not there in "normal" songs, but only in the silent parts.

This problem has been reported several times for the Onkyo and I hoped that they should have resolved this problem...

So bad...

Ahh I'll see if any of my downloaded songs have silent parts. I'm away for a few days and don't fancy downloading a HD album over 4G to try out.

Very impressed with my XDP-300R. I compared side by side with the Sony NW-WM1A and ended up returning the Sony. Pioneer is much more customizable, but first obvious difference is the soundstage and 3D feeling compared to the Sony more centered/smaller soundstage. Both connected balanced to my Noble K10.

For users like me, which uses equalizer, the implementation in the Pioneer is one of the best I've seen in a DAP. Not only by the quality, but by the ability to choose any frequencies you want, and not get stuck with the typical 10 or 20 eq bands which not necessarily represent what you want to equalize for different headphones.

And thanks to this thread I got the amazon jp deal

What I want to know is how it compares the older 100 model that has been lowered in price to $299...

If you don't have a balanced pair of headphones, the two models are basically the same. So basically not a big reason to upgrade. Balanced is AWESOME though.

Some internals have been upgraded, but only super ears with high quality iems will hear the difference.

Also the 300R does NOT have the port protection bars, and does NOT have a speaker.

Screen is the same, software is the same, internal memory size is the same.

Having owned both, if buying now---I would recommend the Onkyo Dp-1XA[\B], or just stick with the 100R.

The onkyo has the upgraded caps, upgraded ports and has 64gb of internal memory, which helps with offline TIDAL storage (less likely to skip when using internal storage). I personally think the only app UI is better than pioneers ( de differ of course)

If you have time, wait for onkyo to upgrade to the es9038 DAC, as I can't imagine they will go too long letting ibasso have the only DAP with the improved ES-DAC

Today I tried MQA for the first time.  First, I went onkyomusic.com and couldn't find any mention of MQA anywhere.  What's up with that?  So next, I tried hiresaudio.com and bought an MQA album - Dimensions by Yuri Arimasa.  When I played it on the 300R, the first track froze at 0:58 - couldn't skip or pause.  Had to go back to the track list to get it unfrozen.  So, after three or four attemps like this, I assumed the first track was bad and started with the second track.  The rest of the album played fine.  Now here's the weird part - after playing the whole album, I started over at track1, and it worked fine from then on.  I hate non-deterministic behavior from electronics!

Has anybody else seen this behavior?

Wow Pioneer better than Sony NW-WM1A is a big compliment. Song being in a much higher price range. I love my 300R too. Still need to try balanced output since I don't have any balanced headphones.

Yes, honestly before trying I was sure I was going to keep the Sony, I had a NWX-Z2 and loved it. However, side by side the Pioneer won. I still prefer the form factor of the Sony, much easier to hold in hand being narrower.

Hi, Guys
Just joined as I have ordered the 300R and now need a decent pair of IEMs, budget up to £250.

Can anyone recommend great sounding IEMs with a 2.5mm jack, or is the
standard 3.5mm jack headphones still the way to go? If so what would you recommend.

Thanks for your time in this matter and for all the posts on this thread that I have been reading
these last few days, very helpful, thank you!

Cheers Alritzn

Welcome to the "club"

I've been more or less exclusively using Ibasso IT03 IEM's with my 300R, they are superb. There is a balanced 2.5mm cable available, the CB12 but its easier to get hold of hens teeth at the moment.

The other popular choice at the moment is the LZ-A4.

Check out their respective threads on here, both of them perform well above their price tag, I don't think you will be disappointed with either of them.

It depends on your music genres...I personally prefer 1-2 driver BA since I need very fast bass and as many details as possible.
So I like more analytical sound rather than musical. Neutral, fast, and very accurate.  That also means that nor dynamic IEM neither hybrid IEM do not meet my personal requirements at the moment.
