MrSpeakers ETHER Flow and ETHER C Flow -- Inspired by Electrostatic Headphones

23 hours breakin? That's nuthin - you're still not getting the best sound at this point.

If you look back at the Ether (non-Flow) thread, you'll see that Dan (the manufacturer) has on multiple occasions said the Ether drivers keep improving up to approx. 200 hours of breakin. And this was supported by the comments in multiple posts of owners (including many who said they previously did not "believe" in breakin.)  Dan has stated that the Ether drivers require more breakin because of the folded shape of the planar driver -- that they were designed this way and require the additional breakin to achieve proper operating spec.

I know they need a lot more break-in to fully flourish, but they are blooming pretty well already :)

After 48 hours of continuous break-in, balance across the frequency range, detail retrieval, and cohesion continue to improve. Light percussion touches float delicately over piano arpeggios in the current "Mutation 10: Time" by Vijay Iyer. Wild jump (random shuffle of all my library) to "The Leaning Tower" in Béla Fleck's  "Ten from Little Worlds." Good ensemble soundstage, great banjo attack/decay, percussion again very clear, 3D, against the other instruments. At this point, the Alpha Primes that were my mainstay for the last year are well, well behind, the Flow's have so much more clarity, space, balance across the whole range. And now onto Gershwin's "The Man I Love" recreated by Jeff Ballard's trio on "Time's Tales," with Ballard's dry drumsticks swinging between Lionel Louecke's guitar and Miguel Zenón's sax, just like I heard them real close at SFJAZZ a couple of years ago. And now Bruce Hornsby singing "20/20 Vision" in the late Charlie Haden's "Rambling Boy" band, with Haden's bass coming strongly from behind, showing the excellent low-frequency work of the C Flows. Jumping right to Yefim Bronfman and Emanuel Ax on Rachmaninoff's Suite #1, op 5 for two pianos. Never found my music collection this compelling.

I'm listening with the Mojo again and I have no complaints about the sound quality. I think my impressions at the SF meet might have been caused by the combination of the very slightly more laid-back sound signature of the Mojo combined with the slightly less sparkly Ether Flow that was fresh out of factory.

That's good to know! I'll be using Ether Flow with mojo as well

I have the Schiit BiFrost Multibit and the Burson Soloist as an AMP/ DAC. Is this good enough for the regular Ether Flow? I'm very interested in these.

I use the BiFrost multibit too with a tube amp I've got, a MAD Ear+ HD or something. I've heard the Soloist is good and I think the MB dac is better than the other dacs I've tried in the same price range. They get mostly good reviews, so I'd imagine its fine. You can always upgrade the dac later on too. Just a guess

I'm using Geek Pulse infinity v2.0 (which actually works as intended) and a Burson Soloist for my Ether, I always thought the amp was the bottleneck, oh how I was so wrong when I switched from NAD D1050 to my current DAC. The Infinity as an amp itself is too tame for my taste to drive Ether, the Soloist on the other hand made it aggressive enough and yet not too tiring.
