Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
Nov 30, 2015 at 1:08 AM Post #841 of 12,086
I just realized in moedawg140's review, he took apart the cups and it looks like there was no dampening material attached to the wood cups? Fostex usually adheres it onto the cup itself. (So there would at least still be some signs of it being removed.)

Looks like this (TH600):

So if there actually is no material behind the cups... I guess they heavily modified the drivers then?

If there was any material, I would have not only explained there was material, but included it in my main picture of the taken apart earcup as well.  All that was taken apart was shown in the main picture - no insulating or dampening material was inside of the earcup housing.

The Fostex TH-X00...my first Massdrop! These look great and the reviews helped me make my decision. Hope it all works out.

Congrats!  At least you got a few month head-start from the QP1R write-up/mini-review of the TH-X00!

Wow. The QP1R is part of the reason I'm getting the TH-X00. It makes my Audeze LCD-Xs sing I tell you so I wanted something semi-closed. I'm also waiting for my Liquid Carbon. To say I'm ecstatic is an understatement.

You'll be one happy camper then, in my opinion.  The LCD-X sounds really good with the QP1R, and I feel that the TH-X00 emits amazing synergy with the QP1R.

Usually massdrop is pretty reliable in cycling through a bunch of gear that is predictable like clockwork. The Grace amp and Fostex were a surprise that many of us didn't see coming - so we didn't plan or expect to spend money through massdrop.

Aaaannnndddd, waiting a month for the gear to arrive at your house sucks total balls.

Oh boy, you have no idea. Took part of a drop for a PBT spacebar, ended up waiting something like 2 months after the predicted, so 6 months total. Fun times.

I see. That's rather interesting!

I'm pretty sure the Th900 has the material inside the cup:

I suppose...it's not interesting to me - I wasn't expecting for material to be inside or to not be inside.  What is interesting to me is thinking of all of the ways to make the TH-X00 detachable without having to cut into the headphone housing.  To make it the most clean without any cutting or using epoxy I may just have to thread the cable through and have it wired up the exact same way Fostex implements it.
