Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
Nov 29, 2015 at 9:38 PM Post #826 of 12,086
I was wondering if some modding can be done to make THX00/600/900 to have better isolation. I would love to use beautiful woodies for office usage, but afraid the sound leaks might affect my colleagues.

Remember back from the Denon DX000 days that sealing them totally destroyed their sound. The MarkL mod (essentially damping the interior of the cup with dynamat) cut some leakage out, but didn't make them sealed. They're engineered to be non-sealed, sealing them is the equivalent of putting your hands over the grill of an open headphone.

Welp, just joined. Didn't plan to spend $1200 on headphones in a month, but the M9XX, HE400i and THX00 are gonna be my last upgrades for quite some time.

For those that have paired these with the m9xx, was low or high gain more appropriate?

5v 2a powered, versus self-powered? The m9xx doesn't have a gain setting.

I had planned on spending that much on headphones before the end of the year, but it wasn't supposed to be on Massdrop. I had avoided it for a while, but the Grace Designs x Massdrop amp got me and I've already bought two more headphones besides.

No regrets whatsoever on the M9XX and HE400i. We will see on the THX00, but if it lives up to what it seems like (reincarnated D7000) then it's a steal and will compliment the HE400i really well.

At this price, I think this is the best looking HP I have ever seen. Too bad, I just ordered the HE400i.
ha, just get both. Money? Who needs it?

Do people not like massdrop around here?

Usually massdrop is pretty reliable in cycling through a bunch of gear that is predictable like clockwork. The Grace amp and Fostex were a surprise that many of us didn't see coming - so we didn't plan or expect to spend money through massdrop.

Aaaannnndddd, waiting a month for the gear to arrive at your house sucks total balls.

This might be an idiotic question, but would the HP-A4 amp be a good pairing for the TH-X00s?

Having a little trouble deciding what would be a good dac/amp fit for these in the $400; but it seems like a lot of people are pairing it with the Grace m9xx?

needs something decently powered with low output impedance (preferably 2.5 ohms or less).

I tried to stay away from Massdrop, because I knew I would like it and drop a grand the week I created an account.

This has been an insane run they've been on recently. Wondering if they'll keep it up or if this was mostly s holiday push.
