The Mojo has a very natural tonality. It gets out of the way and lets you hear the music. I find it a tiny bit warmer in the bottom end than the DP-X1. Detail is excellent. It drove the headphones I tried both with better than the DP-X1. Musicality is high and it's a treat with female vocals or complex orchestral pieces, and very dynamic with serious electronic/EDM stuff.
I started with the X3II. Not too bad I thought. Then in December I got the Mojo and found out how average the X3II is in comparison. The best thing to do was to use the X3II as transport for Mojo. That worked well for a few days until I started finding the screen infuriating in daylight. So, enter DP-X1 to take over the transport role. To my surprise, I found the Onkyo decent by itself, especially when using the balanced port. The X3II is a nice piece of aluminium that has been sitting in a drawer since I got my DP-X1 at the end of January.
Torq and Sabloke, thanks for taking your time to answer my question. Based on your input and seeing few other reports on inadequacies with respect to Streaming, Bluetooth and Balanced port on the DP-X1, I think I am going to go with the Mojo for now, to pair it with my X3ii and iPhone. Given that, most of my use is indoors, I think the bulk that Mojo adds, shouldn't matter.
@sabloke, could you please tell me, where you got your co-ax cable to connect the X3ii with the Mojo? Moon Audio's Black Dragon cable seems too expensive. There is also one on eBay, by Dyson Audio, but just want to see if there other options out there..
Once again, thank you both for your help!
