The Mojo has a very natural tonality.  It gets out of the way and lets you hear the music.  I find it a tiny bit warmer in the bottom end than the DP-X1.  Detail is excellent.  It drove the headphones I tried both with better than the DP-X1.  Musicality is high and it's a treat with female vocals or complex orchestral pieces, and very dynamic with serious electronic/EDM stuff.

I started with the X3II. Not too bad I thought. Then in December I got the Mojo and found out how average the X3II is in comparison. The best thing to do was to use the X3II as transport for Mojo. That worked well for a few days until I started finding the screen infuriating in daylight. So, enter DP-X1 to take over the transport role. To my surprise, I found the Onkyo decent by itself, especially when using the balanced port. The X3II is a nice piece of aluminium that has been sitting in a drawer since I got my DP-X1 at the end of January.

Torq and Sabloke, thanks for taking your time to answer my question. Based on your input and seeing few other reports on inadequacies with respect to Streaming, Bluetooth and Balanced port on the DP-X1, I think I am going to go with the Mojo for now, to pair it with my X3ii and iPhone. Given that, most of my use is indoors, I think the bulk that Mojo adds, shouldn't matter.

@sabloke, could you please tell me, where you got your co-ax cable to connect the X3ii with the Mojo? Moon Audio's Black Dragon cable seems too expensive. There is also one on eBay, by Dyson Audio, but just want to see if there other options out there..

Once again, thank you both for your help!

Did you get a coax cable with your X3ii? I know the X5 i and ii both had them.

yeah, for safety, I choose the dignis case, because it's prevent from the dust.
but I often put my dpx1 inside my jeans or my breast pocket, it's already thick I think.
so it's lil'bit difficult to push the next/previous or play/pause button.

I just got the Dignis in the mail about 5mins ago. I got to say, their shipping may be pricey but it is quick!

This case is a thing of beauty. It fits the DPX1 better than any glove has ever fit my hand. The unit slides in with perfect tension. You don't have to wrestle it and it is perfectly secure. When it comes to rest inside the volume knob aligns perfectly, and I mean perfectly, with the cutout. The leather itself feels warm and soft completely transforming the feel of the unit in the hand. Also, the nominal heft it adds seems to make the whole thing finally feel like a premium product.

Personally, I don't find it does much to impede pressing the buttons by feel. In fact, I prefer it, because, now, the buttons can be as cheap and boring as they like underneath some supple leather.

The DPX1 is still large, but the Dignis answers a lot of my gripes about the Onkyo's poor casing and makes sense of the whole design.

Someone broke into my car and installed a new stereo!

Played the Onkyo for 1st time today in my car.  WOW, really amazing!  Connected through the aux with a home made pure copper cable

The bass is unbelievable with incredible depth, and the mids are smooth as silk.

I already appreciated the incredible and dynamic sound of the stock pioneer head unit in my Lexus, this brings it to another level.

So sorry to hear this

Hope the B*****D suffers a slow agonising death

Oh I see what you mean

The co-ax cable that comes with the Fiio devices is not a standard one and also does not work with the mojo. Fiio uses a 4pin co-ax port that is not common. So those who wish to pair their Fiio daps with Mojo has to buy this specially made cable and moon audio took the opportunity to price it 1/7th the cost of mojo itself.

I used my fiio issued cable with my Mojo and worked just fine. It was a X5i.

I see. With the 2nd gen devices (x3ii and x5ii), they changed to a 3.5mm 4-pin port. And this is the cable that is supplied with it:

That's another way to look at the buttons I guess, and it's one area the Pioneer XDP-100R is better on.

I also agree with virtually everything you said and more; thanks for the impressions and thoughts dude.
I even forgot to mention the perfect cut-outs that you wonderfully described!
Just to point out, the cut-outs on the Onkyo DPA-PUX1 are crap, especially the microphone port hole. If you look at my post with the Dignis Design LUNO unboxing pics, one pic shows the tight, perfect alignment of the leather case and microphone port. That is true workmanship ^^
