Has anyone had success creating an external playlist for the N5 using software similar to MusicBee? (It's a lot like Winamp used to be.)  What steps did you take?  My folder setup for my main music files is identical to what I set up on the N5.  I did a test playlist, and the N5 sees it on the card, but can't find the tracks.  Thanks for any help!

I figured this one out on my own.  If anyone else is using MusicBee (or similar) here are the steps for creating a playlist.

In MusicBee, browse the files on the player (not the computer).
Add songs to your playlist. MusicBee will create a Playlist folder in the root folder of the card you're using.
Once you're finished, pull the playlist out of the Playlist folder and drop it directly in the card's root folder.
That's it, it should work perfectly.

I'm a happy camper now!

Thank you for putting the solution afterwards. Should be helpful for some people !

Greatly interested in N5, even though I am still thinking about which DAP I would chose - I want to upgrade from my 4 year Cowon J3.

Please can someone describe how sound the N5 with the last firmware to his / her ears ? I read that the last firmware changed the sound.

More specifically, how do you find N5 sounds on different styles, from pop to orchestral epic via vocal based sounds ? I read that the soundstage is quite lateral, and may sound a little bit "different" in comparison with "conventional" DAPs with songs with a very charged soundstage (e.g. Orchestral, Metal, etc. with a lot of instruments in the same frequency ranges)

Moreover, I know that it is a very tricky question but I have ordered Cosmic Ears CE6P and was wondering how they would sound with N5 (generally speaking) ? (Even though that nothing can replace testing by oneself but maybe one has some hints)
Those CIEM are described as being quite balanced with a slight of warm / darkness on all the frequency range, with great mids (particularly lush vocals).

I am searching for (the very subjective) "emotion" and a "lively" sound for my next upgrade.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks !

Which is better DAP Cayin N5 or Hifiman HM650? Only for in ear, because i have Shiit Lyr2/B.multibit and HD800/he560. Little or audible differences?

Although the double WM8740 implementation did yield a number of good DAPs in the past (AK120 for example as well), the sound is quite warm and not as detailed as DAPs with more recent chipsets (compared to a Sabre chipset, it is really obvious).
To add more, the Hifiman looks really ugly, a big fat brick.

The Cayin N5, although it doesn't have a very sleek design, is built beautifully, and is the prime example of a customized UI designed for audiophiles only, with a lot of useful options for those not wanting to go the Android route. It transpires quality.
To add more, it has 2 memory slots (up to 400Gb of music) and the AKM4490 chipset, although it retains some of the warmth of the antique 8740, provides a lot more details, which puts it closer to Saber's standard, without the flat analytical sound.

With the support that Cayin has provided, the N5 is a truely finished product that puts many other DAPs to shame, quality-wise.
It is more than powerful enough, I never went beyond 30/100 on low gain with my highest impedance IEMs (ASG2.0). High gain gives even more margin for classical headphones.

Not saying that the Hifiman 650 is bad per say, but it is slightly outdated.

I have been rocking that combo for a few months, but mostly for a basshead set. Huge brick that could be used as a deadly weapon, but sounds great. Great bass and mids for sure. Just wish that Cayin would go back and redesign the C5 to be thinner and smaller, like fiio did with the e11.

I've been listening to my N5 through the 2.5mm balanced jack. Today it went from 68% all the way down to 15% in about 45 minutes. I have the new firmware 3.2. Is something wrong with my N5?

Try draining the battery down to 0, and then charging it up.

Batteries need to be reminded of their zero state every now and again. I usually do that once a month on all my devices.

To determine whether this is a battery (hardware) problem or a software problem, I'll suggest you perform a battery life test, then we'll figure out the more appropriate solution to your case.

While Lithium battery does not have memory effect, you do need to calibrate the gauge occasionally. I normally do this after 15-20 charging cycle (2 times 50% charging is count as one cycle) An inaccurate gauge can lead to the fact that the the battery capacity values are are wrong. The battery may report that it still has reasonable capacity when in fact it has a much lower value, and this causes the computer to shutdown unexpectedly. You can google the terms "Calibrate Gauge" on Lithium Battery.

To calibrate the gauge of a lithium battery, you simply need to do a full discharge followed by a full charge, so this is what I advice:

(1) turn on the LED screen to maximum brightness and set the screen to "always on", keep it running until the player turn off itself.
(2) Charge the battery overnight, till you see 99% or 100% on the meter
(3) Set the screen to minimum brightness and 30sec duration only, set it to playback on any CD quality files (Wav or FLAC) continuously til the player power off again. Keep the screen off and check the battery reading every hour, and drop down the battery readings for record.

Hopefully the duration and accuracy of battery reading will go back to an acceptable level after the calibration. If not, we'll have some data to determine if this is a hardware problem or a software problem.
