FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

Hello Guys,

Does anyone use it in pair with Mojo or any other headphone amp through coax cable? Is that coax port actually so loose or I've got second bad cable in a raw? It works but It loosing every time I move it. Don't even want to say how bad it's during transportation in my bag, totally unlistenable.

Thanks

I frequently use the X5 with coax into Schiit Modi MB, not mobile, but I have no issues when moving one or the other around while playing.  I use the FiiO supplied mini to RCA adapter connected to a 18 inch coax cable.

YMMV,

Thanks r2 for reply. I use custom cable from two different guys. Waiting for third cable to test. It's only works OK if I twist it.

That looks like a great cable, however it looks like it could be too stressful on the sockets with the tight radius and large connectors.  I love short cables & right angle connectors for my portable stacks.  I do find that some cables tend to stress connections.  I have a wonderful short iPod LOD with right angle out of the 30 pin , a very short silver cable and a right angle mini connector.  It will not stay connected on the 30 pin end due to stress because the cable is straining against the connectors.  Different situationI know, yet it illustrates what I am saying.

I also treat FiiO (and other portables) connectors with care just to be careful, may be a bias thing on my part, but.

  Me too, X5ii>coaxial out>Schiit Modi MB>Schiit Vali2>HD650 or DT1350.

Yes, to the Vali 2, I have mine tubed with 6SN7GTB.  I find this combo too dark/smooth for Sennheiser HD650 and the Beyerdynamic DT 1350. Works great with Beyerdynamic T90 & DT 1770.  My most enjoyable with this setup is Sennheiser Amperior, best I have ever heard the Amperior :)

I also use the FiiO line out to a Foster HP-V1, the two make a great transportable kit, and the DT1350 sounds good with this combo, but again I prefer a DT990.

The FiiO is a versatile DAP, stand alone, paired with FiiO E12A (or other small amp) or use as a source for transportable / desktop setups.
All is good :)

Nice! I have a Tesla E88CC Gold in my Vali2, it presents a mild tubey sound but certainly not dark.

Totally agree that the FiiO X5ii is not only a terrific source for desk top system but an excellent on-the-go rig too. I tether it to my E12a and along with the DT1350 or Westone Um Pro30's I have an awesome music system with me. In fact we're heading to the cottage tomorrow and that gears already packed.

X5ii > E12A > DT1350 is aa great combination.

It has been too dang hot down my way to enjoy IEMs or headphones when out and about so mostly using full size headphones inside in the AC.  Looking forward to cooler weather.

Enjoy your weekend.

A local vendor just started carrying FiiO products and I was able to audition the X5ii this week. While I didn't have the equipment to do a blind A/B comparison, the X5ii seemed to have a cleaner, more wide-open than my old X3(i). The X5ii and X3 were similar in overall frequency response and volume when paired with Ety ER4SR. To me, the sound signature was neutral (a good thing IMHO).

The X5ii came home with me

and will be used extensively while traveling over the next two weeks.

Cheers... Brian

P.S. FW update (1.1 to 2.1) was simple and error-free using X5ii format and 32GB SD card.

Awesome.

I compared the x3ii and x5 and the x5 sounds significantly better. The x3ii had rolled off treble, draining music of it's 3 dimensionality. It was akin to listening to music on an underpowered smartphone. The 5 series without question is superior.

Hello,

I've been using a Fiio X1 with Fiio E11k amplifier. I have a pair of AKG K240 MKll Headphones with 55ohms impedance. They are a bright pair of headphones with incredible treble detail. But a bit too harsh at times. I'm looking for a new DAP which would pair well.
I read in a review that Fiio X3 2nd gen would suit a bright pair of headphones more. What would your opinions be about it? Please help me select a new DAP and Fiio Amp that would help. Would Fiio E12a or the new A5 or E17k be more suited for my needs?

Thank you.
