Surely simply line recording will do if you're testing channel balance of the amp?

I can answer that. Typically the battery will last twice as long (20 hours) when using line out to an external amp. It lasts three times as long (30 hours) when using coaxial out on the X5 and X5ii.

Yep - takes the 10 hours out to 16-18 hours at least, maybe more.

Man, you guys are giving me battery envy. I don't think I've ever gotten that kinda life out of my stack. I've always suffered the battery curse, regardless of device - cell phone, laptop, whatever. I just never get near the claimed run time.

Built this on my break today. It shoots over 50 feet!

but how does it sound?

brings flashbacks to when I was a high.school aged idiot. Had so many pencils stuck into a ceiling tile it was staring to look like an inverted forest

Lol, in many ways I never stopped being a high school idiot.

It has fast attack but a microfraction of a second of laggy decay after the rubber band is released. 3 stars

LOL

Got RA today as well.  Just did a quick test: N6 (HO) -> Dukes vs N6 (LO)-> RA (LG) -> Dukes, and difference is very subtle, hardly even noticeable.  Perhaps I need to burn in RA more, or N6 amplifier stage (similar to C5) is just that good.  Too bad RA doesn't have a bass boost, just for my personal taste Dukes surely can benefit from a warmer low end

I just ab'd the C5 and the RA and my impression is identical to yours: they're very similar sounding.

Thanks for confirmation, Peter.  Paul (@Brooko) agrees with this as well.  I'm not saying RA is a bad amp, it's actually a HUGE compliment that it sounds on par with FiiO and Cayin amps - a good thing for a pair up with low end DAPs and smartphones.  My point is that I tested Dukes with all of my DAPs and had expectation that RA will change/improve its sound signature due to a better synergy, but I'm not hearing that improvement...  Still smitten by ZEN (love it!!!), I never thought I'm going to enjoy earbuds that much.  My only recommendation to Lee (@zhibli06) is to change the color of the shell.  I know it uses a generic earbud shell mold, so perhaps a transparent finish will make it stand out (more premium, unique) and will match the cable.

If the RA can be aggressively priced and perform like the C5 it could be a winner.

Um, I'm not getting the C5 to RA comparisons here. From memory, they don't sound alike. C5 is quite colored. RA doesn't sound colored like that to me. Am I misunderstanding something?

I didn't compare with C5, but rather driving Duke from HO of N6 and driving Duke from LO of N6 with RA and sound was nearly the same.  I was comparing Duke sound in terms of pair up with N6 vs RA.  Too many variables!!!

Ya right, like I'm gonna open Audacity when I can use an SPL meter and measure each L/R IEMs separately

Actually it's a great idea. Why didn't I think of just recording the output? Thanks Joe
