I heard that the Zen Micro has better sound quality than the iPod Mini, which is supposed to have better sound quality than the iriver.

What about headphones extension cables? Anything I should know about them (The whole deal with how audio cables make a difference in sound quality)? Any recommended ones?

I like Iriver's sound much, much more then the ipod's. Ipod seems to lack low bass with my E3's. I also like Zen extra's sound, but don't know if it sounds like the Micro.

Also check this out if you want a flash player:

I still think Iriver's is the best unless you want the memory of an HDD player.

Looks interesting, especially considering its price. How's the sound quality on it compare to the iRiver?

jeek - 15.

So, what do you guys think are the chances that I won't be able to notice the supposedly amazing audiophile sound quality with the A500s? Is it possible for someone with poor hearing to not hear much of a difference in sound quality between normal headphones and the A500s?

Yeah, it's in my nature to be this indecisive. From buying a simple candy bar to a digital camera, I have a hard time making up my mind.

How long is the cord on the A500s? I'm thinking about getting an headphone extension cable but the only one I could find was the Grado one and that one costs a whopping $40! Also, how much sound quality would I be losing if I went from the A500s to the SR-60s? I don't know why, but I keep getting a nostalgic feeling whenever I read about or look at grado headphones, making me want to get them; like them have some sort of uniqueness.

Bump - Anybody know of any cheaper headphone extension cables? These extension cables can only improve sound quality, and not decrease it, right?

Since you're adding more components to the signal path, as well as increasing the cable length, I don't see how the sound quality could increase. It's much more likely that an extention cable would decrease the sound quality, especially if it's a poorly made extention.

Even if it isn't even a high quality set of headphones, like the A500s? So, which cable do you recommend for someone trying to get into the realm of audiophilia?

I would recommend going with some high quality headphones and forgetting about the cable. An aftermarket cable simply tweaks the sound--it won't make nearly as big of a difference as switching from one headphone to another. Unless you're getting something like Senn HD 650s, I wouldn't worry about a cable.

Just get the A500s and enjoy yourself.
