iPhone 6 & 6 Plus Audio Quality

Don't know what Ken has listened to but i have listened to quite a few chinese bricks and boutique stuff and driving iems iPhone 5s and 6 are at least as good. So for the most part i think that his assessment os right: unless there are volume problems current iPhones are brilliant.

Fear the man wearing velcro strapped sandals, for he has nothing left to lose.

I agree.  I even listened to a highly regarded amp with my iPhone 6 (I won't say the name), and I seriously could not tell any sonic difference with the amp or without the amp.

So why don't we just save ourselves from the never ending search for the ultimate rig and just buy the Iphone 6 which is comparable to reference DACs .

How about a comparison between the Iphone 6 and the VIVO X5 Max  which even carries a  ES9018 DAC,

two operational amplifiers ES9601

and another two operational amplifiers OPA1612

Some of use are adventurous and are always in search of the best (for our ears).  With this said, I will be able to audition a lot more DAPs/DACs/Amps at next week's CanJam.  If anything jumps out at me with regards to sounding amazingly stellar, I'll let this thread know.

In my experience, with the Alclair RSM Quads and Grado PS500e, my 6 plus is excellent, but my Apex Glacier is 5% better. Separation, imiging, soundstage are improved. It's not massive, very happy with the iPhone as the only source, but if listening critically I want the added resolution.

Thanks. Can't wait to read your impressions

Not sure if I will post any, but I can say for now the only "portable" DAC/Amp that I like the most (more than the AK120II/AK240 DAPs) is the Chord Hugo.

I reckon high quality audio is democratised these days. What was once the preserve of the enthusiast is now available to many.
The audiophile is left counting angels dancing on the head of a pin.

Watching The Simpsons right now in the UK.

Nice.  I need to watch the newest ones as I haven't really had the time to watch them in their time slots.  Maybe I should just download them...yeah that will work, when I get around to it.

I have only been into portable audio for a few months, but a 30 year audiophile.  I recently had a pair of Noble K10s made, and love them.  I was using a Fiio X5 with Fiio E12a amp, lossless files.  I then picked up a 128gb Iphone 6.  The difference is stunning.  The 6 is far more detailed, yet much smoother- which normally isn't possible in my experience.  I also added the Kaisertone app ($10), and now have a 31 band eq with .1db resolution and unlimited user presets.
I have not yet compared the 6 to other DAPS, but considering the convenience of having it as my source, and all the utility of a phone, I could not be happier.

That's the way to really know. I've been suckered so many times by placebo.
Congrats on your discernment. From a fellow ageing audiophile.
