Tidal Lossless Streaming

Hey Cornan,

Quote:
It seems like there are at least a couple of people listnening to Al Green at this forum. If you have´nt heard of Jungle I suggest you check this out:

No trace of studio butchered sound here! Just pure joy! :)

...and while you are at it you might even listned to this:

Enjoy! :)

I think a separate link with good sounding recordings in Tidal should be set up in Head-Fi for music lovers. I vote for Mike to get this going! If not I might do it myself despite limited time due to my kids. Love the concept though! :)

Where have I been!?

Or perhaps I should say, "So much music, so little time!"

Thank you so much for introducing Jungle and D'Sound.  I had no knowledge of these artists and my initial survey of their music has them marked as favorites already - especially D'Sound. Wow! The Carpenters gone R&B! Great musicianship in a very accessible style and very well recorded.

As for starting a new thread for Tidal recommendations, having started Songs that make us a bust a move!, with an invitation to all genres, it has been a lot of fun and from a selfish perspective, I've enjoyed all the new music to which I've been introduced.

I have a strong suspicion, however, that a lot of newcomers to the thread take one look and turn away, never to return, on finding insufficient representation for their personal tastes. In other words, I think the thread holds the greatest appeal to people who truly enjoy and can connect emotionally to a broad spectrum of genres - and I might be wrong, but I suspect such people represent a minority of listeners.

I've found that my journey into better audio gear has, without question, opened some doors for me in appreciating genres I never previously enjoyed. There is absolutely great musicianship to be discovered and enjoyed, as well as excellent mastering to be found in just about every genre, and having good gear actually makes unfamiliar genres more accessible.

By the way, about the only genres I cannot connect with are classical and opera (What's wrong with me?) and the darkest of gangsta rap and metal genres, where the lyrics are even darker than the music (What's wrong with them?)
redface.gif

But my main point here is that I strongly believe the most successful music recommendation threads are those that are genre-specific. Sad but true.

But to get back on topic, yet still on this sub-topic, let me add that Tidal HiFi has had a dramatic impact on my ability to explore new artists. I really don't have enough time to find and enjoy all the music that's out there.

Hi Mike,

I´m happy you liked my suggestions! :) I am a constant searcher when it comes to music....and judging by your music taste I am pretty much moving in the same music genres as yourself....even if I actually have one or two suggestions in the "gangsta rap" genre as well!
If you want to find new music pretty quickly I can recommend you to create a Last.fm account (www.lastfm.se) and tick the "Scrobble music to your Lastfm account". From there you will be able to get quite good recommendations based on your own music taste as well as from other people that listnen to similar music. Very good feature for music searchers as myself. I´ve been using it successfully for many years now!:)

I will definately check your "Songs that make us bust a move" thread and make some suggestions there. I do understand the limitations with a thread like this. Too many people out there cannot be bothered. It takes quite some time finding new music...and could be quite a hussle if you cannot find the right ways. For myself a thread like this suits my purposes well due to my wide music taste and eager to search for new music. That´s one of the major advantages with Tidal together with Lastfm as well.

I cannot help to give some more suggestions on this thread before I head over to your one. Here is some I think you should listnen to as well:

...and one more from my personal favourite...even if they all are. This one is rather special to me though...

Something from different genres...but I hope you like them all! :)

Oh, thanks sonitus mirus.

In truth, I couldn't remember what the non-HiFi format is and I was too lazy to look it up. :p

Wow!  25 million titles and you were listening to an Al Green song...  We must have good taste!   :D

Just thought I'd share this with you. Hopefully the picture is almost good enough for your curated photography thread

Hi Micael!

You are batting 1000!  Surely we were separated at birth!
biggrin.gif

I didn't want to reply until I'd had a chance to leisurely listen to your recommendations and having finally done so, this morning, I'm just bowled over by how much I like them.

Alt-J has been one of my absolute favorites for awhile, now, but I'd never heard of Elsiane or Rhye.  Once again, you've turned me onto music that not only rings my bell, but these are great recordings, too.

I find Esiane to be somewhat like Massive Attack (http://tidalhifi.com/artist/9056), with a more uplifting demeanor, and that cutesey voice just kills me...
tongue.gif

Rhye's Woman is only slightly less appealing to my tastes, but that's not saying much, because I love it.

I haven't attempted lastfm.se yet, but we should probably go to PMs for further discussion, as we're getting off-topic.

Well, here I am running late for work again, so... More later (via PM).

Here here....fun, previously unknown artists to me.  Not exactly my cup of tea, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

I've got a great one to add to the list - Eva Cassidy, Live at Blues Alley.

I love this album, too!  I have the CD - purchased before Tidal.  Her live version of Take Me To The River is stunning (among other great tracks on that album.)

Hey Cuiter23 - I'm bummed I can't find that album on Tidal, but thanks for the pic!  How well mastered is it?

I'm finding a couple of albums where they appear to playback in 'HiFi' quality on Chrome web player, but not on the iOS app. Example - https://listen.tidalhifi.com/album/44639543 - Van Der Graaf Generator's BBC Sessions, released only this week. I would expect that to be HiFi, given its recent release (notwithstanding the poor quality of the source recordings), but it just won't play in that streaming quality on my iPhone or iPad.

Is it possible that the same album plays in different quality on different platforms?

I have a question...how many devices (iOS) can use one account? I can't see anything about this. My account doesn't work on my 3rd device. Just a problem on my 3rd device, I suspect?

You can use as many mobile devices you like on one account, but you can only play one online at a time. My two daughters have offline mode on their iphones so we can use three mobile devices, mine is of course online

. In addition you can use a computer online besides the one mobile device onlie. Your third device needs to probably to be re-authorised. Try that. Try als to reinstall the app, helps sometimes.
I also have 4 squeezeboxes at home which can be used simultaneously and independently with WiMP/Tidal along with one mobile online. Neat!

Ok, that's why. One mobile is already in use. I see now. Thanks a lot.
