what would be a good pad that will put the ps1000 closer to my ears? i had a pad from sr60 or something but nearly ripped it putting it on. plus i want an open pad just closer to my ears if it exists.

I tried TTVJ flat pads on my PS1K just to hear how it sounded. First off, they wouldn't stay on my head due to their weight, and second, they lost everything the G cushions bring out in their SQ.
If you really want to do this, buy the Grado S cushions and quarter mod them so the drivers are exposed. Or you can take your G cushions and place them between 2 very heavy books (or whatever) so they flatten out a bit.
Why is it you want the drivers closer to your ears?
IME/IMO your going to defeat the whole purpose of the PS1K sound-signature.

That said a lot of people like the flat pads with their sr325is, sr325e, rs1 and ms pro. Still make sense to me as putting the Gs on those cans would ruin the sound for me

well i guess if i want to waste a little money i saw the ttvj flat pads on the front page just now? do those fit? if i don't like them no big deal really. i had like some sr60 pads but i stretched them so hard getting them on i ripped them. actually now that i think about it. that is putting that driver too close to your ear. you guys are most likely right. the thing is those drivers behave differently than the sr line. however, like some really nice leather cushions would be nicer than that foam. that foam itches me. i know people have washed them in dish soap but others had them crumble doing that too. i am a vegan but it is just really about ingesting animal products i think is gross. i do not mind wearing it. people say i am half azz. i think i also decided i liked the brushed cups ps1k with thousands of hours better than the e now. in fact either one are my favorite headphones and i have some pretty heavy duty cans if you look at all my old posts. yes, i am too lazy to make a profile. for one thing they do not allow five pages for it lol. i am mainly back into loudspeakers though. not to say headphones do not have their merits however.

Again…the PS1K will fall right off your head with flat pads on them…and again…your going to kill the sound, and waste your money. Just trying to help.

But if @music_man like the PS1k with SR60 pads then the flat pads shouldn't disappoint him, at least in terms of SQ.

Their never going to stay on his head…their way too heavy for the flat pads.
I'm not saying he can't like the SQ (I don't) thats his personal preference. I just found it killed the reasonSQ of owning the PS1K…just my opinion.

the answer is i listen lying down lol. the sr60 pads did not exactly fit however. i couldn't really judge the sq without some proper fitting flat pads. as i said i will take your word for this though and forget about it. as i also said some pads like on the md-r10 would be nice perhaps. the foam is just kind of uncomfortable. i am rather afraid to wash them.

So I just received a 325e from Amazon. The right headphone is I'd say is 75% lower in volume compared to the left. Like this isn't something subjective, like oh, the bass, vocals or whatever sounds more powerful on one side than the other. No, it's clear as day there's something defective about the unit I received. I'm going to send it back and givesome thought in maybe shelling out the extra cash for an RS2e. But this whole thing got me thinking, how is Grado's quality control? What if something less noticeable, maybe not able to be picked up by the average person goes wrong? Like instead of a 75% volume difference, there's a 2%? Or maybe the driver is tuned differently in each ear compared to another unit?
