Are there good over ear cable guides (ear guards) that work with the GR07 CE - better than the stock?

I found a trick for this buried in the GR06 thread.

Don't bother with the ear guides. Right before you insert them rotate them once or twice: all the way round away from your head, forwards first; so clockwise on the right and anti-clockwise on the left.

It's a bit hard to explain but just try it a few times. It puts a tension on the cable which keeps it pressed in against your head rather than flopping out over the ears. You get the hand of it really quickly and I now do it automatically with all my over-ears.

People really need to know about this as the cables falling off my ears really put me off the Vsonics at first.

+1 I figured this out for my VSD1S. Now, I don't use the included ear-guides.

I've been using the GR07 CE for 3+ weeks now. Overall I'm very satisfied!

Two outstanding issues:
-The stock tips didn't fit my ears, so switched to Meelctronic tips. Much better but not perfect. This is likely an issue with my ear canals and not the Gr07. I have foam core Sony Hybrids on the way from Japan via Amazon - as mentioned in the Gr07 tip thread, Crossing my fingers that will help. I haven't tried the included foam tip. I hate the idea of using a consumable tip.
-The over ear cable guide always flops out. It's annoying but I can't say it interferes much once they are inserted. But still, they get in the way.

Unfortunately the GR07 isn't my go to IEM for the subway or when walking outdoors. I definitely wouldn't use in the gym or running outdoors.

For the ear guides, my experiences:

My first pair came with a slightly more rubber-feeling earguide, which is a bit more stiff.
The other pairs came with the "current", I guess, ear guides, which have the same shape, but seem to have a slightly more matte feel over the more glossy "rubber" of the first one.

What I will say is that if you use the ear guides enough, say 1-2 months, they will soften significantly from use, and I'm guessing the warmth of wearing them. Mine were quite stiff before, but now they are very supple on some of my pairs, and now if you pick the IEM up by the end of the guide where the cable comes out on its way to the Y splitter, the the weight of the housing will make it drop and bend alot, whereas before it held its shape better.
This means that once worn in and softened, the ear guides will conform much more naturally to your ear and won't want to spring out easily, or at all.

Downside to this is that the cable guide can become so soft that the cable starts popping out more easily, but just a small slim piece of electrical tape on either end should take care of them and keep them together if need be.

I have these and prefer them to the VSonic ear guides. http://www.meelec.com/MEElectronics_Over_the_Ear_Cable_Guides_p/ep-cableguide-bk.htm

For what it's worth though, I use them without ear guides.

Got it. Will give it a try!

I briefly auditioned a friend's GR07 Classic, comparing it to me GR07 MkII, and I found the low-end of the Classic to be markedly different from the MkII - much thicker and fuller in general, with definitely more mid-bass. Don't most impressions find the Classic and MkII to not be this different?

My 4 classics are all very different in this aspect aswell, the most low-endy and the most treble-leaning pairs are quite a ways apart and one sounds full while the other sounds quite light on its feet and "lean" in that sense.
Just individual differences it would seem.

WOW, this is the kind of QC consistency that VSonic puts out? That must explain my GR07 MkII, because despite most reviews talking about the GR07/GR07 MkII having a solid low-end performance and weight, I always found my MkII bass-light and generally lacking thickness and body in the mid-bass and below.

That's very worrying, if these discrepancies between units exist.

GR07 CE is a lot cheaper. Maybe they cut the cost in consistency.

Well, they all sound absolutely brilliant aswell. I don't think many people bought more than 1 MK1 when they were being sold, so there's probably not alot of multiple data points at all from those days. I've got 4 and can easily compare them with the exact same source, tips, and the exact same ears (however fresh, fatigued or otherwise they may be on that occasion).
There's also the possibility to alter the general tonality slightly with different tips to get a more agreeable signature for each pair of ears.

Got my Maroon CE....the ear-pieces are not that big as I imagined from the pictures.....the shells feels smooth and bit rubbery, not sure of other iterations tho.......sibilance is there but not I had expected from reading reviews, may be I used to 3S? Cld be posible......still its not at the level of 3S (sibilance) to me....burnin cld do some justice. :D
