Is the 4398 really a TotL Cirrus Logic DAC? I had it in my $1100 Marantz DV9500 back in 2005 & never appreciated it. Bear in mind that it could well be implementation around the DAC.

If you look at the dac features, it's not their low end but their top DAC model and the implementation would make a difference. I never liked the Cirrus Logic brand due mainly to the codecs used in the iPods and iPhones and when I initially saw CL dacs being used in the AK240, I had my doubts however if they have done a great job implementing it with a very good amp stage then it might be worth it. I haven't heard it so I can't say for sure.

DVD players often sound soft or less dynamically interesting compared than their CD player counterparts when playing CDs. The video transports spin at DVD speeds (faster) and utilize large buffers. They are optimized for video and music is an after thought. Technically, it shouldn't make a difference but I've never heard one that performs as well as the best CD players with CDs. I wouldn't assume anything based on the Marantz.

Something I wasn't able to get from this veeery long topic: is that famous XLR-block-adapter included? Doesn't look like it is judging to what I could find on the net. And if it isn't...is the price already known?
Same goes for the dock...the one for previous players costed an arm and a leg, I can imagine this new one is going to cost 2 arms and 2 legs?
