NEW! AKG K812

Here is some inform on the construction:

The top bars are made out of spring steel encased with plastic to dampen vibration. The cup shaped like that ('D' shape) to create a better sealing and it is made with protein leather (flux leather),  the strap is made out of material similar to rucksack type airy material to keep the head cool and the strap height is user adjustable. I found it quite comfortable and light. The cable is not balanced. Warranty is 2 years.

That would be the default removeable cable plug. It is massive, but didn't seems to get in the way. I would be more concerned about the K701 like cable (very flexable and thin) and the cheap end plug.

That connector looks so long that even if it doesn't hit shoulders while wearing that one good knock against desk and the plastic tube is going to crack.  That is an awfully long lever.  Why not stick with the mini XLR?

Why does everyone want a new connector?  Even the Alpha Dogs have brought a new one to the table.  And that is from a company started by a DIY guy!

This is no news, many headphones come with pore cables, however, this one looks pretty cheap for USD1500 headphones, at least from pics, and I agree, AKG should make one that much better and flexible, if you decide to replace it, what were they thinking?

I've just come back from the demo session too. I listened to it for nearly 45 mins in complete silence and had my T1's and Ultrasone Sig Pro's at hand for comparisons sake.

Basically guys, Nomax is right.

Seriously, strap on tight as AKG have released a monster of a headphone. A real real beauty. I almost cried when listening to it.

The real judge of how good this headphone is will ultimately come when you get the chance to listen for yourself, but it's better than the T1's and better than the HD800 in my opinion. I have very rarely, if at all, described a headphones sound as beautiful but this is what this is. It's so clean, clear, resolving, weightly, full, dynamic, layered and above all natural. No artificial brightness, sibilance or peaks. Bass isn't light or under-energised. It's closer to the Sig Pro's in weight and quantity rather than the T1's. The soundstage is HD800 style wide. Definitely wider than the T1's.

What really Impressed me. No that's a lie. What really scared me was how good it sounded out of my SGS I9000 smart phone (Voodoo sound). Wow. I can't see driveability being a problem with this headphone.

I agree with Ra97oR about the cable in that it could be more flashy/impressive but it's completely functional and I'm someone who likes thinner more easier to manage cables rather than the T1 type. Something like the Ultrasone Signature pro's cable is the best - could have done something like this. He explained about how this can be driven from an ipad for use when musicians mix/take ideas down on it (that's true) and when one considers that, the cable makes more sense. Overall build apart from that is very good.....

....might as well just write a review on listening impressions, rather than just type whatever I'm thinking. I'll be back shortly..

I also used my smartphone as well, it was shockingly good. I have notes on the small differences, smartphone vs their setup on the same song. I will be drafting my impression soon.

You've just made me hesitate about a planned purchase of another headphone...

For me, I don't actually find the small Lehmann amp & Harman Kadon CDP good enough set up to fully demonstrate AKG K812 capability. Although I don't think 812 is particularly hard to drive compare to say T1 or HD800.

Well, regarding set up, its rather pore than up to the pro level, so, judging based on it is simply impossible, however, impressions are on very positive side anyway and that's promising. They should have some high end DAC based system there, also amp like Burson or Trafomatic would made perfect finish.

THX guys.

I thoroughly congratulated Philipp at AKG. He talked about wanting to restore the AKG's flagship status of the K1000 and the effort that had gone into making this.

He's done amazingly. This is a terrific headphone that I'll definitely be getting when it comes out late November.

Wow.  Thanks for sharing.  Time to start saving my pennies.  I have been hoping for an AKG flagship ever since I had my mind boggled by the K1000 several years ago.  For all the bitching I have done about the cable connector, if this thing can match the technicalities of the HD800, but with more soul, I would have to do everything I could to get one.

It was a bit too big to post as a reply, here is a very brief impression of the headphone. I liked the sound of it very much.
