Compare 10 headphones at same time ... You definitely spent hundreds of hours for testing, thanks for sharing. I wonder if you can compare the higher headphones such as HE400, HD650 ...etc , that'd be very great

Sorry, but the topic of discussion is portable / closed headphones.

. Just my opinion:wink:

Gotcha. Seeing that I've already owned a lot of headphones, I guess I could, but remembering without notes makes it too difficult.

Hate to throw more fire to the flame, or a curveball, or a wake up call,
But I find there is no other portable in this 300 price range that can beat either the Audio Technica es10 or the ws99, wich, by the way,
with 53mm drivers, they are the cans to beat and mop the floor with every "portable" mentioned thus far in this thread... IMHO..
Sorry to burst everyone's bubble..

Sorry Maxx134, but have you heard the M500's? As much as I love my WS99's, the M500's seem to be in a different class when it comes to balance, detail, transparency and refinement. Even the bass of the M500's is rather spectacular.

Yeah... here's the thing... I've heard both of those, liked both, and am actually more interested in the KEF M500s. WS99 didn't leave a particularly strong impression on me, but I recall liking them enough that I thought to myself that if I could get a good deal I'd probably buy them. The ES10 I loved for their aggressiveness. However that only works on select genres really well. From how I've heard the M500s described they battle with the big boys in many key areas that allow them to truly excel as all arounders.

It might be your preference that those are the best in that range, but you shouldn't state it as an absolute fact. That's a fools errand on here. They are good cans, they aren't he be all end all though.

Haha Ok I guess I did the "smack" (!) But it was fun :p
and I have to admit the m500 are beautiful so I will have to try to hear them and post back soon because simply not enough comparisons to others cans to see what level of can is this wonder...

Sike! Ive hard the WS99 (I have the ws99) and it certainly doesn't 'mop the floor' with the psb, momentum, or kef m500.

What exacty is a neutral sound as opposed to coloured sound? How does one distinguish between sounds in a headphone? Is the on ear momentum a bass tight headphone and all rounder by all means??

Neutrality is the holy grail of all audio equipment - it is the ability to preserve the fidelity of the sound in the entire audio chain from voice/instrument to your ear.
Every piece of equipment in the chain especially including microphones change the sound.

Usually one who have experience with playing and performing music or those who work in the sound/audio engineering industry simply have the experience and the measuring technology to tell quite quickly if something is neutral or not. A lot of guys are here just listen to music all the time and develop 'the ear' for it.

Momentum is a genre master. The bass is half way between tight and boomy. It's just enough for fast busy music like metal, and loud enough not to get drowned out on a busy street.

Not to start a discussion, but isn't it transparency your describing rather than neutrality? Neutral to me is when the frequency response is flat.

Yeah, sorry - you're right - but they do go hand-in-hand.
I mean - a headphone can be perfectly neutral, but if the resolution is rubbish nobody would buy it.
