Comparisons: 36 of the Top Closed/Portable Headphones Around

Picked up some QC25 and am really trying to like them. Something a little artificial about the sound, but I can't put my finger on it. Need to listen more. It is kinda like hearing Beats are not very good for so long all I can think of  is "No hi's., No lows...Bose" Trying to keep an open mind.

I think they have a "house sound" as in they are very sculpted to sounding mid-range friendly but lacking in the highs and lows. Also sometimes I feel that vocals do not sound completely natural. Still they are a blessing when I had a 10 hour layover in Miami and I had 4 6 hours flights. There are no other headphones that are as a transportable and can fold flat and they are also very comfortable. I would say IEMs would be my only other option if I didn't care for the ANC.

I have no issue with the ANC it is impressive. I would love them if I was traveling. My job doesn't require me to travel anymore. I thinned my herd too much and was trying to find a good all arounder as replacement and these have always intrigued me.

You might want to give them a few days....that said, to my ears they sound pretty good...ESPECIALLY on a plane.

 They actually measure quite respectably:

Just a quick heads up that both new versions of the Momentums have arrived (over-ear and on-ear...both wired)!

I have started on the over-ear headphones and first off; as amazing the construction was of the original Momentums, Sennheiser has really kicked it up a notch. I love the foldability that they now have and they are quite a bit more portable too as a result. As well the over ears are truly full sized over-ears now and incredibly comfortable (and even fold down to a smaller foot print than before)....very impressive! The earpads and headband leather feel more luxurious too.

I'm listening to the over-ears as I write this (with my Astell&Kern AK100II) and I swear the treble extension has improved and they sound "bigger" with better imaging. So far, I'm very impressed with the improvements. I'll definitely report back with more impressions. I'll be moving onto the on-ears by this weekend. Should be fun.

Your views on the momentum 2 over the ear headphone has me tempted to pull the trigger and get them. Thanks for putting foolish notions. In the mind of a audiophile fool:D.

I know Griffin aren't the first name that comes to mind with headphones but the Woodtones Over Ears are really very nice.

I believe from my, admittedly brief, listens to Sennheiser Momentums these have a similar sound and quality. They are very refined and warm sounding but nicely detailed. They sound just what you might expect wood headphones to sound like in fact. They are also light amazingly comfortable and stylish in their own subtle way..

I realise they probably won't be taken seriously by people on this thread due to their price and no name manufacture/ lack of street cred, but for what they cost are worth a try. heres one of several good reviews:

Well tonight is my second night with the over-ears. This time I'm using the Resonessence Labs Concero HP with them and my very initial impressions have continued to be solidified. Simply outstanding headphones. Beautiful construction, more open sound, treble is more present (thankfully) over the originals and the comfort and portability have all been improved upon.

I'm listening to Diana Krall's new album (Wallflower) and the over-ears can definitely do justice to female voices!

ahh @MacedonianHero

its seems the momentums 2.0 (i guess in this case) is a better headphone in every way! why you gotta do this to me! now i'm a pickle on what to get next (in terms of full size headphones)

i loved originals already (sound was great! great for portable use!) (they were cosy on my ears) but a little extra space wouldn't hurt! plus that ivory colour is quite the little beauty

i wonder where i can find them in toronto to give em a listen... hm....

I think they are pretty much better all around. They also sound wider and deeper...the older ones were a bit closed in sounding.

So tonight I switched over the on-ears. It was a bit hard as the over-ears were just that hard to put aside. Construction wise, they are a bit more refined, the ear cups (these are the ivory ones) are a bit more slick looking with a very nice gold accent. Sound-wise, they are more of a refinement over the previous version; whereas I would say the over-ears are more of a solid renovation.

The one thing again that I really appreciate here is how they now fold up (as the over-ears), so for portability, they have stepped it up a few notches. This was a weakness of the previous versions IMO.

I've been trying to wait for the pm-3 but these impressions might make me splurge out and get a pair of the new momentums as I hated how they didn't fold and I found them too polite sounding (improved soundstage and treble extension make them sound a lot more interesting though)

Funny enough, I used the same album to compare the AE2 with the QC25 yesterday. Then switched to the HD700 and got carried away.

Any chance for some pic of them? Please?
