HiFiMan RE-600 Review
Aug 6, 2015 at 3:50 AM Post #721 of 902
Currently using an Ipod Classic 7G + Cayin C5 with my RE-600 and although it sounds quite good, I'm wondering if the DX90 or HM-700 would be a significant source upgrade.

Yours is the fully fledged balanced RE-600 right?

If that's so then I think the HM-700 will really make it sing. If it's single ended, maybe don't bother changing.

Disclaimer: My opinion is based exclusively on logical deduction using second hand information as I do not own any of the above items.

I have the re600 and a hifiman hm-901 i'm hoping to get the balanced amp card soon but even with minibox amp card is very good, great vocals ,great soundstage ,very neutral, i have the sennheiser ie800 too, they are both excelent iem's but i have to say that the ie800 are ,to my ears ,a reference very hard to beat in the universal iem world ,so all the discussions have no sense they are bouth excelent but from diferent worlds

Would be interested in RE600 balanced vs IE800.

Yup it's balanced. Just curious if change in sound is that much better.

Hey guys,

Would like a bit of input from some of you pros
beerchug.gif

I have the option of either the Klipsch X11i or the HiFiMan RE-600 (they're priced relatively close to each other in SA R2000 for Klipsch and R2500 for HiFiMan) and I'd like to know which one would be the best option?

Thanks for the help!

More information please. What source do you use (DAP, smartphone, ...), where will you be using them (noisy environment, quiet, ...) and what kind of sound do you prefer (re600 is slightly warm but balanced, with good scene and separation / X11 is warm with strong bass, very intimate, slightly narrow scene).

X11 is definitely less demanding than re600 and makes better first impression. Re600 is great but needs very good source and not-so-loud enviroment. X11 is by far better isolating and great ergonomically and probably more durable.

Thanks for the reply, I currently have the Meridian Explorer (amazing little thing) and LG G2 for when I need some portable use (not so great).

So far I've been using them with the Thinksound On1 but I've been looking for something a bit more portable and with more clarity. The bass is very meaty on the On1 but sometimes my ears get tired of that pressure you get from bass, so I thought an iem would help.

I'm feeling like so far the X11i might be the better choice, but am concerned about their detail and highs (have heard the highs are rolled off but haven't heard much about the details). If you have any opinions on these for the X11i, that would be great!

Thanks so much for the reply, really is great to hear back :)

Sorry for the delay.
I've never heard Explorer nor do I know how it pairs with IEMs.
X11i highs are rolled off a bit and there's less details than with re600. But it's because of their signature. X11i have nice, warm, full bodied sound, sometimes a little too bass heavy. They sound like mid-range full-size headphone.

re600 are different - open, spacious, definitely not bass heavy but enough for me. Plenty of details.
re600 are better than X11i simple as that. But re600 needs good synergy to beat other iems and it's not that easy to find. Also built quality and ergonomics are worse than X11i.

I have both IEMs and others and multiple sources. Right now I can't really fully recommend one or the other. However I can fully recommend Flare Audio R2A or Flare Audio R2pro

How would you compare RE-600 vs R2A/PRO?

How would you compare RE-600 vs R2A/PRO?

Well, I'm not gonna go into details but I can tell you this. Balanced re600 plus hm901 is a match made in heaven - everything sounds sublime with this pair. But with other gear while re600 still sounds good, it's just not the same.

R2A needs more power but sounds great with almost everything (same with R2pro - I think, because I just got them yesterday:) ).

R2A with dx90 or Oppo HA2 sounds just as good or better than re600/hm901 combo. It's smoother, somehow more cristal clear (it's like all the distortion have been eliminated even though I previously didn't hear it or maybe more precisely didn't pay attention/didn't know it was there in the first place). Bass is superior in both quality and quantity - though quantity is not that different. Even mids seems better. Soundstage while not as wide on R2A as on re600/hm901 in balanced mode, is more holographic/3D.

And then there's background noise. R2A are the only dead silence IEMs I've tried with HA2 (no hiss whatsoever) - of course it's not an issue with dx90 which seems to be dead silence with almost all/if not all.

R2pro... For now let me just say they didn't make as good first impression as R2A but after switching to R2A, R2A just sounded worse:) (a bit). I'm guessing it's because pro are more analytical and A's are more musical while sharing the same great qualities.

cool thanks!

I had both R2A and R2PRO but sold the R2PRO after modding R2A and made it sound almost as good as R2PRO.
I asked because I just bought the RE600 used and it is arriving next week.
Agree on how you hear the Flare Audio.. they are indeed one of the best audio purchase I made this year follow closely by Uptone Regen.

Hello , my balanced amp card has arrived , the diferences in stage and tonal acuracy with re600 are clear, everything grows in a good way:)the thing thats has me thinking is with the ie800 (not balanced iem)if i turn the switch to balanced i notice that the sound pressure (power) incrises, is that normal?

Would the re600 pair well with an X3 or X3/e12?

I like a mid-centric sound with good vocals but the playlist is pretty varied.

I wanted to keep things under $200 and I see these just make it.  My T-Peos H200s just went out on one side.  I did like them but there was a harsh spot that bothered me sometimes.
