The Fiio X5 Thread

Sorry. Now that i am back.

I started the subject of discussion, because i feared that i could had had a broken x5 DAC, and i wanted to know if everybody else gets the issue. this is why i really need help understanding what is going on.

I really do not know if this is how the particular songs are supposed to sound, or if i have something broken in the chain. I get radio between stations static like in some parts of the songs, and i posted the links, just to know if everybody else gets something similar.

is there any way i can use replay gain to repair tracks that are loud, to make them better? or anything at all?

No. Clipping in audio is like overexposure in photography. There is no way to bring back the detail that has been lost.

you could switch the two around in mp3tag, that way it'll work for you :)

The problem with that is that the "album artist" will display during playback as opposed to the "artist".  I don't want to play back a multi-artist compilation and have the artist show up in the window as "Various Artists".  What I'd like to be able to do is select "Various Artists" from the library browser and have the individual artist displayed during playback for each song.  I know that this come across as anal on my part but I still maintain that it should be difficult for Fiio to allow browsing by "Album Artist".

I totally understand that, but the clipping occurs without it being detected with clipping meters.

What i mean, i hear clipping, but it is not there, it is like there was a clipping guitar recorded, but mastered without actual clipping, like a very heavy distorted guitar, but does not clip in master. It sounds extremely distorted at low volumes too.. i will try my chances with wavelab and try to see if i can repair the songs.

I am bothered that i cannot fiind the clipping anywhere in the file, even though i hear it.

anyways, sorry for taking my time with this problem. i wanted to firstly exclude the x5 DAC being broken. anyways, back to x5, i wanted to ask, how do most people carry an x5+e12 or e12a stack? i have a hard time carying it in my pocket as it is more thick than most of my pockets and some buttons press when i walk faster, or climb stairs...

Can you measure the Dynamic Range of those tracks?

If the clipping is already present on the CD, your rip will not show any clipping. The damage has been done in the recording and production of the album. It cannot be undone.

I have a hard time finding the critical positions, too. Below just an example (from «Seed of Gold») of how the curves need to be edited to remove the clipping. I can't say that the present corrections have any positive effect, though, it may just be a distorted guitar.

Also, there are thousands of such clipped peaks in this song. In turn audible distortion doesn't always coincide with such high peaks or loud passages. So I would say it's a rather hopeless undertaking, unless you enjoy the work and the opportunity to learn how to edit a wave file.

I'm waiting for a while in hope that there may be a modern simplisity version of 2.5 until I try it out.  The responses sound encouraging, so far.
I hope we can avoid the headake of another 'which FW sounds better' war.

Hi guys,
I have been having a problem.
I am using a Lexar 64 GB USB 3.0 flash drive I recently bought. for the OTG storage function on the Fiio X5.
Now this work splendid.

For some reason now, it says music not found. I have not changed anything.
Other then just adding a few music folders to my USB drive.

I don't get why it says no music found, because there is a ton of music on it.
There is a single flac file in the root of the usb stick.
And like 13 folders with music in it... So did this work before and now doesn't???

Im clueless. I didn't touch Firmware anything..

First I thought maybe because I set usb mode to USB DAC in my Fiio. but I set @ storage and it didn't matter...
Please assist.

Does everything show as it should with the drive in the PC?
Try chkdsk - Properties->Tools->Check

Reset X5

Sometimes just disconnecting and reconnecting the drive will do the trick...

I spend a lot of time in a fog and know I must be missing something but I can't find an FW2.5 update on the FiiO site.  Where do I get it?

If I'm happy as a clam with the X5 do I need it?

You don't need it, but I think 2.5 makes the x5 sound like the hugo...
