IMHO, the bass impact on the Annies is not as good as the Beyer DT880 600 ohm.

Most Beyerdynamic fones have a V-curve, known for "strong" bass impact.  DT990 Pro is an exception (supposed to be more flat), but depending on the media even the DT 990 Pro has too much bass for my taste.  For me, Beyer and AKG are not comparable, the two manufacturers seem to follow diferent philosophies. IMO.

I think you mean that the DT880 is supposed to be flat, and it is flat. The DT990 is not supposed to be flat, its supposed to be bassy. And Beyers are not known for strong bass impact.

Where did you get this info??

Wolfetan is right on the DT880. They are much more neutral than the DT990. I found my pair of DT990 to actually have a pretty good subbass kick.

All the Beyerdynamic headphones I've had that were in the DT-770,880 and 990 series all sounded randomly different than as advertised. For example the DT-770 600 ohm was the flattest headphone I've ever heard. It was supposed to be V-shaped. Someone got one that was a bass monster. The DT-990's I've had always had recessed mids. I've tried all but the 600 ohm version.

My favorite is the DT-880 32ohm (tried all 3), but it's mids were a bit thin and the headphone was way too unforgiving to me. I must also be the only one who is not compatible with it's pads. If so i'd have kept it. They just were not deep enough.

The DT-880 I had didn't seem that V-shaped in sound signature. I actually found it to have less treble than my K702 I had at the time. The K702 actually sounded a tad warmer too. K702 isn't warm, but compared to the DT-880 it was. DT-880 does seem fairly flat. I'd actually say it's flatter than the HD-600 to my ears. I mean the HD-600 has mid-bass hump and the DT-880 has slightly recessed mids and a little extra treble.

I had the DT-990 Pro once and hated it. Possibly the worst headphone i've ever heard (I'm a mids addict). The DT-770 Pro 80 I liked a bit more but it seemed to have less mid-bass and more low-bass. Funny to think that I once had a DT-990 250ohm version a long time ago and I always loved it. Didn't seem that bass heavy. Maybe I was clueless at the time and had it underpowered!

My own listening perceived the DT880 600 ohm to have a lot more punch in the bass than the Annies on the O2/ODAC and the ASUS Essence One.  I owned both for a while and actually still own the Annies.

But, it is not a bassy headphone.

hehe I suppose that requires further explanation. Just purchases an HE-400. I'm a person who enjoys a can on the brighter side of life. I'm hoping the bass is more extended than it is emphasized. If not, it will be a quick turnaround.

I agree that my comment may probably be a little too much generic, but all the Beyers of the diferent series that I had opportunity to listen to in the past years (not too much but also not to few) gave me that impression.   About the 990... note that I am talking about the specific 990 PRO (250 Ohms) which is supposed to be for "for monitoring and studio applications" according to Beyer's own website.

So I'm looking for a confirmation. it hasn't mentioned several times the Q701 and the K 702 with the Annie pads sounds exactly the same as the Annie.

is this accurate?

Yes, they sound the same apart from the pads.  AKG will never tell you that of course.

Hey guys. I heard from my headphone guy that the K712 is limited to 500 pairs. Hurry and get them while you can!
They also use new TempurPedic foam so that there is now even more bass than the K702 65th Anniversary.
Of course I was not supposed to tell anyone! My measurements report a 20db increase at 5hz.

LOL!

I just wish I could hear 5hz :\

you got it backwards, dt880 is the neutral one, dt990 pro  is the most v shaped one

Its not emphasized. It has a really flar bass response, and flat bass response equates to quite full sounding bass on planar magnetics. Its very much like the LCD2 bass, though the upper mid recession on the HE400 makes the bass stand out just a hint more. One of the best QUALITY bass responses out.
