I'll give it a shot - see what happens.

One additional thing that I find odd - when the X3 is connected to the Windows 7 Home machine, the usual display of connected devices doesn't work properly.  Definitely something going on with USB with the X3 on this machine.

I had the same problem with my Colorfly and found it was cable dependent. Doesn't make sense, but it is what it is.

so i am charging my x3 with a wall charger and i see the battery  bars go from blank up in animation. It's been about 30 minutes so far and it keeps going blank to full. Shouldn't it stop going blank and be like 1 bar full, 2 bar full, 3 bar full, etc? Like is there some sort of progression of the charging process?

I also can hear creaks as I'm holding it and turning it around with my fingers. Is this normal?

I did try with another cable but still no dice.  I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try even another.  But at this point it seems easier simply to use the machine that works.  Just an extra effort to get the files over.

This reminds me of LCD screens and the dynamic contrast ratio.

In terms of 'real' contrast ratio scales, the best TV's will have about 20,000:1 in terms of actual contrast ratio.

BUT. Then some company decided to use the B.S system known as dynamic contrast ratio and put out big numbers and then because one company did it and made other brands look small. They all had to do it then.

One company calls their player Mastering Quality. Now guess what, other dealers and resellers if not companies themselves have to peg the same thing onto their devices now as well. FiiO doesn't call it MQ as far as I know and all instances of that word appearing are from their dealers adding that word onto the device.

I just find this funny

5 years from now, and we weill have DAP's whose titles are 3 sentences long because another company decided to add another 'pop out' word to the device.

it could be anything, from drivers of your usb, to the kind of motherboard, or your antivirus etc ...
not a simple task, if everything is up to date (win, drivers) I would also give up pretty fast on that one.

good luck mate.

Are other mass storage devices (USB flash disks, USB card readers) working on this machine?

1) try to look in the "Device manager", the X3 should have an exclamation mark, click/open the device in device manager and look if there is an error code, try to Google the solution for that code

2) try to update your USB/chipset drivers

uhh. are the right sides of your x3's creaking when you prress against it? I feel it go in and out slight and it makes creaking noises >.<

I mentioned this in my review. The build 'tolerances' aren't exactly 100% tight and built to nm perfection like a billion dollar company would have.

This is what I did to get mine to connect....
I plugged the X3 into the USB port with the X3 turned OFF....
The X3 started to charge, then let it charge for a hour...
Then I unplugged the X3 from the computer....
Then I turned the X3 to ON...
Then I plugged the USB cable into the X3 and connected to the computer...
and the X3 screen shows the USB cable screen...
Then went to computer explore and there it was with all the files and the music folder...  works great...

Wow!  I left it plugged in with the X3 off for a while.  Little more than an hour afterwards went to continue with your suggestion and out of curiosity checked the devices - the X3 was there!  Didn't have to disconnect, turn on the X3, etc. Nice. Tried it again, this time with the device on and after some time it showed up again.  Maybe this guy just takes an extrodinarily long time to connect on this machine, for whatever reason?

I got my x3 from MP4nation today!  No customs fees to USA Hahaha!  Wow these guys are awesome, and I also got free brainwavz R1 iems!  I believe I got a deal here!  all for $190

edit:  It's surprisingly not warm, but just right from the headphone out.  It mixes well with my jh16 and doesn't need to EQ away the midbass like on the sansa clip.  It is surprisingly weak on bass though, won't put out as much as the clip.  Messing with the bass eq on the x3 doesn't bring out that extra sub-bass oomph so i just leave it alone.  Hooking it up to the jds c5 amp definitely fills in that much needed bass, but some songs don't rumble as before.  It was totally worth it though because the SQ is definitely better than the clip.  Clearer, cleaner, and wider soundstage.

The X5 is not warm at all, which is good for me.  I'm going to switch to my copper cables though to see if that extra rumble comes back.

I guess my only complaint would be less sub-bass than the clip, and the interface is slow.  Press back/forward/play/pause and it would take about 2-5 seconds to respond.

Received my X3 today from Headsound. Loving it so far, but there is one little issue that really bugs me.

I have quite a few 1 hour + mixes, for these mixes, I have cue-files with the individual tracks and artists. These cue-files work just fine on my rockboxed players (Clip+, Fuze V1 & iPod video 5.5G) and PCs (running Win7 with Foobar & VLC and Ubuntu 13.04 with VLC), but on the X3, only the 1st song title from the cue-file is displayed and it stays throughout the mix. also, no skipping between songs in the mix. So it appears the cue-file is recognized and used, but then something goes bad. mp3 + cue are in the same folder and have the exact same name before the extension the X3 is running the 1.23EN firmware. Also, I tried playing via file browser as well as category play...

The cue-files are generated with a little application I programmed myself and I'd like it to be X3 compatible. So can anyone post a cue-file that works on their X3 so I can try to figure out what's different from mine? Any other suggestions welcome too.
