This looks really bad. Basically the navigation based on tags is almost unusable, no matter how good the files were tagged:
-  browsing by "Artist" will mess up the album structure, and
-  browsing via "Album" category requires you to remember by heart all albums names from each artist.

And if I will re-organize my folders to have ARTIST --> ALBUMS in them, and switch to the "Manual navigation"... I'll lose gapeless functionality (based on the discussion from last week).

I'm really looking forward for this player (actually I already have it on pre-order since 2 weeks in Europe), but this seems quite a limit on navigation functionality (at least compared to a Rockbox UI).

Agreed, this is very disappointing.

Yes, my rockboxed clip zip, when I select "artists" and select an artist, it then shows an "all tracks" option followed by a list of the artist's albums. That's good. And if you select "all tracks", then all of the tracks (from all of the albums for that artist) are listed alphabetically by track name. That's good.

Yes, this is how it should be. Here is an example of  Rockbox on a larger screen than a ClipZip....from the list of artists I selected Wilco, and that brings you this screen...

I think gapless is more crucial than navigation. Hence, I am now using a 16gb iso 32/64 until the enhancement on the navigation comes in... It shouldnt be rocket science to tweak the navigation, thats why I am not sweating...

While fiio's interface looks fine (for me).
I don't have one so

Just don't understand why they don't work with rockbox to port the UI.
its Open source, its well supported , well documented and feature rich.
Why re invent everything again.

agreed..one can easily adjust if they want too..this is their first time to create a DAP..I think FiiO will implement future firmwares unless they hit a hardware limitation..

and why rockbox is always being brought up..rockbox here rockbox there rockbox everywhere..not everyone likes rockbox..

Nobody said you had to use it. It's always brought up because it's been refined over a 10 year period and so it does many things well. Is it perfect? No, not at all....but it's pretty darned good.

I brought up rockbox because all the issues in the current fiio f/w do not exist in rockbox.
Not saying it's issue free i had been using it for over 5 years.

Another option is always good for the consumer right :)
Its not like fiio would need to do much work once the port is done anyways.

..I understand..but since I am reading the posts here everyday..James already brought it up that it can't be done..and if I remembered correctly rockbox devs have no plans on doing it too

that was not the point really..anyway I perfectly understand.am getting really impatient on the release of the x3 here..

Is there any other info you would like to know in the mean time that I can help with in terms of questions about the unit itself?

Can't be done , or won't be done...
I am ok with them not doing it as well its there choice.
I do find it hard to believe it can't be done, with time and enough effort i am sure it could be.

RB devs most normally don't do the port ,the end users do.
I've love to give it a crack but i don't have an X3 or a spare x3 that I want to brake :)

Ah well one can dream, maybe once the initial rush dies down I might get a second one..
