Unique Melody really has the worst marketing I have seen in a while. From the 3DD description:
"The number of custom earphone/in-ear monitors makers is growing each day, and there are more and more choices for you to make. From one to many balanced armatures, the options seem to be tough, yet nothing much unique. We, Unique Melody, tried and successfully stirred interest in the audiophile community with our Unique Melody Merlin, a 5 driver hybrid model. Of course, we cannot stay dead with our product line."
Good products will not lose appreciation over time. They can praise the Merlin as much as they like, but if it really were ground-breaking, they would not have to replace it and watch it die. What I read is: "Our product died because the competition was too tough."
"After months of thinking, designing, tuning, re-thinking, re-designing, and re-tuning, we have decided to make a new custom in-ear monitor with 3 dynamic drivers per earpiece, UM 3DD!"
What I read in these lines here is a lot of trial and error was experienced by making a square block fit into a circle by force. Is this how innovation is started?
"With 13mm for bass, 8mm for mids, and 5.5mm for highs, we would like to bring the dynamic fun to a whole new level. Changeable bass vents and other fun options would very likely to be included as well!"
"Fun" is mentioned twice and both linked to the sound signature and implementation of extras. In this context, fun equals anything but high fidelity or successful application. HiFi is not fun and if they were serious about designing an innovative and better experience, they would definitely not call it fun.
Furthermore, they are hinting that the design is not yet finished and further improvement is necessary. Bass vents are likely, but is it another square that won't fit into a circle?
Please, I have zero experience with Unique Melody's products and even less so do I know anything about the 3DD or it's production! I am just amused by the description and how the person responsible for marketing could let this text through.
What I read is that the 3DD is an exuberantly highly priced subwoofer ("fun") with a terribly frequency response and no technical advantage despite it's highly difficult implementation of the design. The product description is an advertisement for a joke - a product created just "because we can"!
I doubt it will really be this terrible, but any serious company would have
at least claimed technical advancement/progress/improvement.
I am looking forward to your fun experiences.
