Hifiman IEM's: RE-400 and RE-600

I get ringing on my ear just a few minutes of listening to re400 and also v6 is getting brighter.

Add more filters over the opening and it should help. The RE-600's were a tad bright to me but once I added another filter over the existing one, it toned it down just right for me. Iv'e even read people putting using tissue paper or toilet paper? See if that helps?

Ok, I will try that if I don't manage to sell them soon. Thanks.

Before you play with filters or sell them, I'd recommend to try the Sensaphonics seal test.

Sometimes, even experienced IEM users think they have a good seal when they actually haven't. A less than perfect seal may lead to bass drop and increased treble resonance.

I do a simple and effective test to find which seal is the best. Find a dead quiet room, bedroom, bathroom etc. Put a different tip on each IEM on both the left and right. Place each IEM left and right in each ear so, one in the left and one in the right. Make sure you have a good comfortable fit. Some people have to pull the top of their ear up and insert to get a "better" fit while others can go straight in. Depends on your biology, but try this test both ways with each tip to be sure you are not discarding a tip that may actually just not be inserted correctly according to your ear structure.

Once that is done and you have two different tips on each side, take your fingers and rub them together as close as you can next to your ear. Do this on both sides at the same time with both hands. Whichever side has a better seal will not allow you to hear your fingers rubbing together. It will be hard to hear but you will hear it but very low. Repeat and keep changing the side out that you can hear louder than the other side and go through all your tips.

Once you have tried all the tips, take it to the next level and try sound tests like suggested and see if you find the ones that seal the best to match your audio test. Good chances you will.

Well I just received my pair, I purchased these direct from HIFIMAN via Amazon. I love the sound but as good as the sound is, the cable's lower part after the split is the worst thing I have ever seen. It looks and feels like it has been through hell or it's just really bad quality control or a returned refurbished unit.

It has 9 kinks/bulges in it that I counted. I can’t believe this is normal?  If you slide your hands across the cable it’s not smooth but you hit/feel these bumps. I looked closely and they appear to be the cable beneath sticking out though the sleeve. Some look like burns. This is only on the lower part after the split to the jack. The upper part after the split is fine.

I have email this to picture to HIFIMAN's support to see what their reply is.

Well I got my replacements yesterday and they are much better. Hats off to HIFIMAN support.

What re-cabling service do you guys use for the RE600s? Any that are easily accessible to Canadians?

I love the sound signature on the RE600s, and really think they're at a sweet spot in terms of price/performance ratio. Like seriously, I was at a shop auditioning things like EarSonic's S-EM6, Shure SE846, Westone UM50pro, etc., and while those earphones were better (and also 3-5 times more expensive), upon returning to the RE600, I wasn't at all disappointed. I can happily live with the RE600's level of sound quality and excellent signature.

That being said, the build quality and durability on the Hifiman in-ears is ABSOLUTELY atrocious. I've had to replace my RE600's 4 times during the 1 year warranty period. I've replaced them less than a month ago, and the cable is already starting to crap out on me. Before that, I had the RE400s which I also had to replace multiple times for the same issues. I recommended my friend to get the RE400, and they've broken on him 3 times as well. I got another friend RE400s as a present, and within a few months he was asking for a receipt so that he could replace them. All of this occured to all of us within a year. Hifiman REALLY needs to step up its game in this regard.

At least customer service is nice, prompt and helpful, so the returning process is quite easy. Takes about 2-3 weeks each time to get new earphones to Canada.

I had my local headphone store recable my re600. All I get now is the great sound quality without the worry/hassle of cable dying on me

I think the OP is looking for more info than "my local headphone store." I'll try to be more helpful by stating that http://www.btg-audio.com can do it. Shoot them an email what you have and want. I contacted them but have not taken the plunge yet. I was quoted about $51.00 + shipping.
