Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

Nothing sounds better than the TH600 with Lawton sound deadening upgrade IMO. I bought the 600's and 900's simultaneously listen to both of them and can't comprehend how anyone likes the 900's better. Not sure what I'm missing...

Perhaps amplifier synergy? From my brief listening experience at rmaf with the Fostex 300B SET amplifier with the TH900 there's a definite smoother signature perhaps less dramatic(?), hence this is what I love about the TH600 is that sense of drama in the music and emotional intensity/excitement. Definitely not boring!

Yes it's true that although the THX00 is more portable and pretty wood cup version.
The key strength is portability.

It's no way come close to the th600 and is an obvious different purpose can.

The th600 is the obvious value and Lawton mods ALWAYS makes an improvement over stock.
They are good at what they do..

I just read that the THX00 is supposed to be the best technology from the TH900's, TH600's and the Denon D7000? I'm guessing this isn't even close to true and just marketing hype?

If you read it on the manufacture or vendor's web site, then take it with a grain of salt.

I just joined the TH600 family and was wondering that is there any replacement pads that are considered better than the originals? My pads arent worn out but I'm just wondering for the future? And since I have them plugged into my Xonar Essence STX, is there any reason to change or upgrade my DAC/AMP?

Headphones of this high quality will continue to step it up as you up the quality of Dac & amp. Move accordingly to budget when capable, if you're happy with sound then enjoy and don't rush into it.

I use two different amps with the TH600, customised Perreaux SH1 and a Nakamichi SR4 Stasis receiver that has it's headphone amplification coupled from the main output, needless to say it sounds outstanding and far better than most headphone amplifiers that I have heard!
Goodluck and enjoy!

No matter where he read it from,
It *edit* can be true about technology borrowed,
BUT.
Th600 & 900 are more clear sounding and the better headphones, regardless what was done.

There are many. I use MrSpeaker alpha pads. I tried the stock, the Lawton, and also the brainwavz pads, and I stuck with the alpha pads. I think the whole range of ZMF pads fit too, but I'm not sure. I can check on Monday.

Agreed, Massdrop is noted for the hype as we all know and not to say there aren't good deal's to be had there but let's be honest many Head-fi'ers want to believe a $400 pair of so called " Ltd Edition Headphones " made in China can best the Japanese counterpart that sold for several hundreds more!

Interesting... which alpha pads? i like the idea of the soft fabric on my ears instead of leather...

There's one choice for Alpha Pads.

Brainwave makes a hybrid leather/velour pad. Mine are on tour with some other pads that are being tested on his Ether C. I think he's sending them back to me today, so it will be a while before I can test them on the TH600. If they work, I have a bunch of pads I can send to you for testing if you promise to return them and pay for shipping (I think it was $6)

post #4401 is my impressions on the Ether C. Assuming these pads fit the TH600, I have more impressions to write!
