Audeze closed-back prototypes! Yeah, this is one of the headphones at the top of my wish list.

A closed-back Audeze? Yes!

And, yes, it's a planar magnetic design.

Earlier tonight, I got a chance to listen to one of Audeze's closed back prototypes. Actually, these prototypes are more of a “proof of concept” at this point. As these are still in the "proof of concept" stage, only a few exist. If they do become a reality, look for a release mid next year (2013).

This headphone is a fully closed design. How does it sound? Exquisite. Surprisingly open, airy. In my initial listening session, it did not sound closed-in, the soundstage impressive.

And later today, anyone at RMAF can hear it for himself. Seriously, go hear it. Seriously.

Without a doubt, this one moves into one of the top spots on my wish list.

Very cool. These will hopefully best the old fostex Denons by a good margin. They also look an awful lot like regular LCD-x with a cup attached.

Really wished they have used one piece of wood instead of a 'cup attached' method... Me thinks modding however XD

I wonder how this product would be placed price wise. Between LCD2 and 3? Less than 2? More than 3? confused.gif

it looks like its heavier than LCD2,3

I am dying to hear this!!!!  Would imagine a tad weight increase, but I am sure it will be well worth it.

This is a prototype, most likely they made a cup that would fit the stock screw holes, and bolted it in place of the open grilles.  The final version will surely look like, well, not an LCD2 with wood cups attached.  I'm guessing this prototype is mostly to test the sound, so it's not worth judging it based on its current appearance alone.  This is very exciting, been waiting for some more Audez'e products.

Indeed, wonderful looking. And powered by the ALO Rx stack, should have all the power one needs.
