Quick question: any of the diary folk like the XBA-1? With them selling at $30, it seems like a hell of a deal.

So tempting...

The XBA-1 is okay.  I hope you like J-Cables though.

Not tempting, not at all, not even a little bit.

Speaking of cheapy cheaps, found a single BA with full iDevice remote for only $20... wondering if I should give it a try.

WELCOME TO THE CIRCUS OF VALUE

I appreciate a lady who appreciates value!
Only 1910's kids will understand.

Confused?  Was thinking Bioshock, and then you changed a_rec's gender.

FWIW, I really did enjoy the closed-back LCD-2 prototype.

Mind if I pick your brain for some impressions? Are we talking good smooth sparkly highs, warm detailed mids, nice full bodied pounding bass and a soundstage that's immersive?

Lol, literally. Gifs are definitely one of the best things about the Internet.

Soooooo buddy o' pal o' mine. Care for a cross loan of incoming IEM's at some point?

You wouldn't make a grown man with glasses cry would you?

What's annoying is that the VSonic VC02 is roughly $10 more. So do I bother with it, or try the ones that I know are good?

Well for me, the answer there is simple.  Since a_rec pointed out the j-cable, yuck!  But for you...

Knowing that the VC02 is good has taken out much of the mystery for you.  There is no sense of exploration.  So even if it is $10 more, some of the thrill is already gone, thus changing the value of your expected experience.  But the XBA-1 represents that [possibly] greener pasture...

Tough call right?

The sense of exploration KILLS me in this hobby! I'm also thinking of other things: when I get my customs done, could I donate the XBA's to be an experimental pair? Or better yet, could I live with this supposed lack of treble in the XBA?

Also, to bring you back in the game, I think the Iphone versions have a Y cord. This is the XBA2IP

At least you don't have to do that on a super tight budget like me right now, although the constraint does lead me to find some rather interesting options from time to time.

Is there anything specific you're shooting for?  It gets easier (or not) if you're on a mission to find something that is just right in a goldilocksy kind of way.  For example, I've gotten pretty attached to the typical BA "hey let's all be flat" signature and I'm now starting to delve into subtleties.

I've got the UE700 and GR8 right now, with the UE600 on order (should be here within the week).  Seems like I've got a pretty good spread in terms of dark-to-bright within that range.  But then, there's praise for the GR10 floating around, and I think to myself that I might like those upper mids and highs.  Then again, do I really want to go GR10 when the Flat4 is calling to me beyond that, and the 1plus2 beyond that?

After a while it can get a bit What am I doing?  Yet, I still want.  Mind you, I'm bemoaning but not truly complaining. I'd rather be in this turmoil than sick to death of it all.  I guess in a way, Tilpo's situation is scarier to me.  That and tinnitus are two scary things that I don't want to experience.

Ah, but now we're over the $75 mark... so now it's got to compete with the JVC HA-FXD80 that a_rec rec'd...

So I found both eke's and music_4321's post in the HYPE TRAIN Shure 846 thread. I think both are right; on the one hand, the consumers are the one that should keep the companies grounded with the ever increasing price, but then music's point is that, despite the ever escalating price, companies see that the consumer is willing to depart with that much money. But, he continued (and as MF-sensei said here before the food talk) cheaper is getting better and better sound quality too. EDIT: some other 'choice' examples of this happening other than the EarPods are the HiFiMan Waterline and the JVC FXD80 (I own the EarPods anyway).

My own view is that with the R&D that Shure had done, they have to pay that back somehow. Shure, the first iteration of their new implementation, in the form of the 846, will be expensive, but hopefully they have something else that they can trickle down to lower end models*. Maybe they can make a model with only the new exchangeable nozzle system, while another could be utilising the new low pass filter tech or whatever (as you can see, I am not that too well versed lol). And why not they laser edge the innards of the 846 since they already gone that far with it, I feel.

*That might be too optimistic coming from myself though, tbh.

Luckily for me, these'll be at the upcoming L.A. meet as UE is making a showing.  So, I'll be able to explore these for free!

This makes you a keener shopper with a more creative approach. Satisfaction once attained, will be higher as well. At least this is my hope.

And mine as well.

Though, I think that some part of me will always want that something new in terms of gear.  As long as it doesn't degrade into greed or gluttony, I think I'll be okay.

You're exactly right.......
At least in my case......
I had a budget of only a hundred dollars for a new can.......
After a lot of research I ended up with a hd518 and I love it........
The satisfaction is huge......
