Alright thanks, i will try the mod when i got home.

Yup. It is one of those ridiculously easy mods and is reversible, so give it a shot. Also, you can experiment by taping any number of vents (but try all three to begin with).

Bought DT770 PRO 80 to see what will be the difference,

Let me tell you, there is definitely something is those carbon nanotubes used in S500/S600. They are steal for their price. Beyers are better, but not THAT MUCH better, plus, the bass does not reach as deep as on JVCs, DT770s are something between neutral and fun sounding HP's, so it's kinda hard to describe them. If you want a set of FUN sounding HPs, don't buy cans from $200 range, as these are mainly studio or neutral sounding with/out only a bit of salt. You are not paying for bass there, and certainly they are not intended for electro music, it sounds on DT770s only a little bit better, and as for portable usability, an E11 ($100) is needed.

Will be selling Beyers for something like $130, they look like new.

BTW, it's funny how S600 is $30
biggrin.gif

with a bit of boost (EQ) in midrange SQ makes you think that JVC accidentally put here drivers from some high-end HPs

But the HA-S600 is the top model of the S500 or another headset??

I don't think amazon jpn ships to many places outside of Jpn, that is why everyone is using tenso forwarding services with their amazon jpn purchase.  But i have never used that system before so.......

Yeah, I've heard of tenso, but I don't think it's very convenient...I think I'll get them from buyfromjapan on ebay. Pretty much the same price I'd pay if I had to go through tenso.com/amazon.jp.

It is kinda confusing the naming scheme for JVC cans. The HA-S600, HA-S700, HA-S900.  Are all older JVC portables the HA-S900 being their highest end ones. I own the HA-S600 and the HA-S700.. The HA-S600 are not bad as they use the older carbon 40mm driver but they have some wonky mids. The HA-S700 are terrible single handedly the worst sounding set of cans I have ever heard. No amount of burn in can cure the overly dark dank sound of them cans.

The HA-S500 while numbered lower uses newer carbon nanotube drivers that has a much better tuning and resolution than all the previous JVC portables. I doubt even the older HA-S900 will touch the HA-S500 in sound.

but ebay ships by SAL (which takes about 3 weeks). At the same price, tenso ships thru EMS, which takes 3~5days.

Yeah, ebay price is about the same as amazon jpn if you factor in tenso S&H. Tell this to the other dood that is not willing to get them from ebay, cuz it's the only place along with amazon jpn you can get them new, unless you live in Asia/ Hong Kong or something which also carries them me thinks.

S600 have carbon nanotubes as well. These drivers with a bit of EQ sound just as good as S500, plus, it's cheaper and a lot more comfortable  as it's over-ears, but then again, S500 have better SQ out of the box. All in all, they are really close to each other.

What about decreasing numbering, it isn't exactly true as S400 is basically castrated S500s.

btw, there is somewhere review praising S700s, so they aren't as bad.
