I'd like malveaux to try the d600.

I think we may have similar tastes and last time I heard he loved the D5000. He could also do a comparison since I believe he's heard all the Denons.

Are your reading this malveaux?

this amp/dac has to be for my iPad/iphone/ipod/macbook

Than E17 is for you, you will use usb connection for macbook plus you need LOD for use iPhone. The DAC will be bypassed when connected to iPod/iPhone. There is combo which someonr claimed it can bypass iPod's DAC but I can't recall the name since I don't deal with Apple.

I was gonna suggest you the VentureCraft Go-DAP X. That supports both iAP (iDevice) and USB DAC protocols officially (i.e. no workarounds, no "hacks", no "jailbreaking", etc.).

I think the perceived bass difference between the M-80 and D600 may be the difference between supra-aural and circumaural headphones.  The D600 feels so much more enveloping with a bigger soundstage than the M-80.  Of course, the M-100 will be playing on a level field regarding the circumaural aspect.  I will be surprised if the M-100 isn't bassier than the D600 and that wouldn't be a a bad thing for me, or IMO, the M-100 :)

If the D600 and M-100 are on the same field.... Denon messed up or is over-priced. I hope the M-100 IS NOT bassier, I want it around my D7000 bass levels minus the annoying recessed mids (in relation to the highs)

looks promising but pricey

you want functionality and quality - then open your wallet and prepare the KY.

Glad I can help you determine which headphones to avoid with my recommendations....

I hope you didn't take any offence, I'm just saying these are probably a headphone for the masses, and not me or most sonically balanced driven head-fiers (even those after a slight bass boost) especially if it has more bass then the D2000 which I'm quite sure is the case.

Val already mentioned it's slightly bassier than M80, Denons have roughly 5dB boost, M80 about 5~6dB. Val said M100 measured it's +8dB at 100Hz versus 1kHz and +9dB at 100Hz versus 2kHz which doesn't give a very full picture of it at all as we don't know how it looks down deep and neither do we know what midrange/highs looks like as it might either be a peak or valley at 1-2kHz range.

Versus D7000 my expection from M100 is slightly bassier with more punch (midbass), slightly more forward/about the same mids due to smoother/not emphasized highs. Val has stated several times he doesn't like emphasizing the highs so it's probably very safe to assume it won't be very bright.

But doesn't the fiio e17 do basically do the same thing or is the fiio not quality?

It Doesn't bypass the iOS devices DAC.

First impression of D600 (full review to come):

  1. Detailed mids and highs ever so slightly toward the bright side; I am enjoying the high end and don't typically enjoy a bright sound (not a fan of Beyers, Grado or any Ultrasone under $500)
  2. Vocals on some of my favorites gave me chills for the first time in years- not at all recessed by my standards.  Example:  Rush, Closer to the Heart; variety of female vocals
  3. Bass is solid, deep and punchy but not overpowering; less than many "DJ" cans
  4. Comfort- pads are softer than they appear in pictures, extreme comfort, clamp is actually on the light side for portable use, but fine for walking
  5. The D600 reminds me of the Ultrasone Signature Pro tonally and SQ-wise with a greater soundstage
  6. The D600 sounds very good through my Ipod but amazing through my FiiO E11; likes amping even with low impedance
  7. As of this moment, the D600 is my new favorite headphone and $400 well spent

Edit after 20 hours burn-in:

Some agree with my sound preferences, a few not, so all is IMHO:
The sound continues to improve.  High end has smoothed out, vocals feel spot on- highly detailed for male and female vocals, excellent detail.  These are not technically transparent due to midbass, but I like it this way.  These are not basshead cans, but they have a prominent, full and satisfying bass.  Lovers of rap/hip hop/club may not feel there is enough bass; transparency junkies and sound engineers might feel there is too much bass, so I'm thinking Denon is reaching for a middle ground to appeal to as many as possible.  The Signature Pro is more neutral, transparent and slightly more detailed as it should be for the price, but the differences are subtle except for the midbass.  The D600 is still my favorite headphone.  Listening to these has been addictive to the point that I have been avoiding other responsibilities and haven't even been keeping up with Stern on Sirius so I can rediscover my music collection.

Edit #2:  A/B'd against the PSB M4U2 at a local audio store today.  The M4U2 did have tighter, punchier bass than the D600 to the point that it could be considered a basshead headphone with proper EQ.  However, after listening to my D600 for the past few days, I can't believe I thought the M4U2 was highly detailed.  The D600 has a solid edge in detail.  I consider both excellent headphones and among the best in their price range.

And... they arrived....

1) Extremely well packed (at last... I mean, the Dx000 series to me lacked in that area for such expensive headphones).
2) The bag, although good quality, there's not enough protection... it's just a bag... So I would still use another case when transporting them (probably the same I use for the D5000, the Beyerdynamic case with extra padding on top :p -->   http://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/shop/hah/accessories/headset-bag-2.html )
3) Very comfortable pads! Similar in feel to the ones that come with the SkullCandy MMMs but no obtrusive plastic jamming your ears (like the MMMs which I found uncomfortable!). A bit of pressure up top, but extending the headphones a bit helps.

Quick sound impressions:

THESE ARE NOT BASSHEAD HEADPHONES!!!!

Sub-bass is weaker when compared to Sig Pros, Denon D5000s, heck, I might even say weaker than the Mad Dogs... BUT don't quote me on this yet as the only other headphone I have side by side right now at the office is the Ultrasone! Midbass is definitely a bit boosted. Sound is airy similar to the D5000s (from memory) and bass seems a bit more controlled than on the D5000s. Seems to me some mid region is also a bit boosted as sometimes guitars (electric) sounds more "in your face"... could be the track, but comparing the same track on the Sig Pros, the guitars sound more inviting on the latter... Will have to test more to see if this could become an inconvenience (i.e. Will listen to Killswitch Engage for a bit and see if it becomes fatiguing) Vocals seem good to me but have not listened yet to any Fiona, Esperanza, etc. yet. There's a slight bright tilt too (at least brighter than both the Signature Pros I have on hand and the D5000s) Isolation is actually pretty good (better than the D5000s). Same with leakage. On fast tracks, the headphones respond really well and the same with acoustic... Seems like a well-rounded entry to me!

Will probably assess better the complete package/sound in a few weeks.

At $410 (what I paid), I think it's a good "replacement" for the D5000s as of now... When I do a full comparison at home, I guess I'll know for sure! Will keep testing and comparing against the D5000, Mad Dogs and Sig Pros to see how it fares as a whole.

Thanks.
