The ASG-2s weren't designed really as detail monsters...  They are designed more to be a warm, inviting sound signature that is entirely non-fatiguing.  This sort of signature does have its drawbacks, but very favorable for its inoffensive sound.  So don't expect the ASG-2 to really produce the high detailing that you'd expect from an IEM that was designed for that :p  As for dynamics not being able to be as accurate as a BA, HiFiMan RE272; nuf' said.

I know. Which is why I'm on the search for detail monsters!

The ASG-1.3s (and eventually ASG-2s) filled the hole left by my HJE900s. I might get RE-400s until I can get a high end set of UIEMs or CIEMs to fill that gap of neutral detail oriented IEMs.

I've heard tales of the great accuracy of the RE272. However, I've also heard that the Heir Tzar 350s are unrivaled in their neutrality and accuracy (even compared to the ER4)... So... I'm going to have an interesting journey. After I save up some money of course.

Someone just made a big post about how the Tzar 350 is not neutral and how that term is being thrown around in the Heir thread. The 4.Ai is said to neutral, it's no where near...

Well hopefully I can demo them at the fall NY meet. It's not so pressing really that I get it any time soon

This is where tinyman and I part. I've been listening to the AS-2 all day and it's highly detailed (unless you're talking cold and analytical like the HF5, then it's not that and I'm glad it's not). But where is this idea coming from that an IEM can't be warmish and detailed too? That's malarkey!  the AS-2 is great detailed, and those super tweeters help push out the details. The W4 was warmish and detailed too.

I said the smoothness took from the details, it actually did in my impressions. Said nothing about the warmth doing that. Tweeters have nothing to do with the smoothness, so I have no clue why you bring them up. Lower treble didn't have the greatest of extension still Dale brought in great presence, but I understand why the tweeters don't bring in the best extension (deals with the fatigue issue).

There is obviously a possibility that I simply didn't have enough time with the ASG-2s, nor have I gone though the burn in required to successfully access them performance (both of these do make a big difference on how we perceive sound). The other thing is that the AS-2 is custom vs the ASG-2 is generic fit... We've seen with the 4.Ai that the differences between generic fit and custom fit can make a big difference in Tyll's assessment between them.

Quick question: after hearing the ASG-2 at the Canlanta meet, I've decided I want to snag a pair. I searched around on Aurisonics' site (and one of their distributors) and couldn't find anything. I know that some are receiving their ASG-2s now, so I'm wondering how I might go about ordering a pair. If anybody could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it!

Also, I saw mention earlier here about a 20% discount for orders from meets... Anybody know if that applied to Canlanta as well? I must have misunderstood, I thought the ASG-2 wasn't available yet when I was talking with Dale and Andy. Just hoping that I might be able to jump on that too!

TIA!!

Can you  give us a bit more impression on how the ASG-2 sound like, thanks.

ASG-2 isn't currently available as Dale and co. were busy fulfilling a bunch of outstanding orders, now that those are out of the way, they are planning on unveiling an upgrade program for current ASG-1 owners to transition over to the G-2 model. I assume that after this program has been announced, the G-2 will officially go on sale. They've currently hit a snag on the vendor side of things that they are still trying to sort out apparently. Dale dropped by a week ago to let us know that it's currently being resolved. Hopefully it won't be much longer.

He posted some really good impressions here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/662707/canlanta-2013-may-4th-meet-impressions#post_9415225

Thanks for the information and for the kind words! The post you linked to is crazy long (I suffer from a form of torrential verbosity that renders me incapable of succinct commentary at times), so I'll just copy and paste the relevant part below if that's cool.

Aurisonics ASG-2: Got a chance to talk to Dale and another Aurisonics guy from across the pond (Peter, I believe? Andy). We didn't get to talk for a particularly long time, but Dale is an interesting guy and obviously puts a lot of thought into his gear. We talked a bit about his design and manufacturing process, and the steps he's taken to make it exceedingly difficult for someone to copy his designs. He talked about working with different musicians and actors to create CIEMs, and we even found that we used the same audiologist for impressions in Nashville (small world!). I got a chance to listen to the ASG-2 twice; once shortly after arrival, and once for a more extended period a few hours later. They were running the demo through a Fiio E11 (which I have and about which I feel somewhat lukewarmly), but the ASG-2 still sounded very impressive. (During my longer subsequent session I used my GS3 as a source into the Meier PCSTEP, and the improvement was noticeable). It has a variable bass control knob that Peter was kind enough to demonstrate for my mom and me, and although I found the bass to be completely overbearing even at halfway, I actually found this feature to be potentially pretty useful (unlike the bass adjuster on the IE8, which I find to be gimmicky and not particularly useful-- I've never turned it up from its lowest setting). At the lowest bass setting, the sound of the ASG-2 was clear and highly detailed, with a  bass response that seemed just shy of neutral. I preferred the sound slightly above the minimum setting, which gave the bass a lot of punch and impact while not overrunning the midrange. The ability to change the bass response to taste could be a boon to travelers and others in high-noise environments, as the bass response seems to be the first thing to go when outside sounds abound. My only potential reservation here is that when the bass setting was increased to the max, I could hear people talking around me a good deal easier, meaning it reduced the isolation, which could be problematic in louder situations. Realistically, though, I don't think many people will ever come remotely close to maxxing out the bass on these, so I doubt it will be much of an issue.

The description that kept running through my head while listening to the ASG-2 was everything I like about balanced armatures, but with an vastly improved bass response. While driving down to the meet, I listened to the Fischer DBA-02 Mk.II, and the ASG-2 sounded to me like a DBA-02 Mk.II with slightly more refined treble and worlds-better bass. If you like balanced armatures for the clarity and detail of the midrange and treble but dislike the underwhelming bass, these are likely going to be a slam-dunk for you. I believe Dale said these would be around the $500 range for the universals (if I'm mistaken here, someone please correct me, as I didn't write it down), and at that price, these are going to be really competitive. In comparison to the JH13FP, I found the highs slightly more emphasized and the bass a bit more impactful on the ASG-2, which suits my preferences. The JH13FP seemed more cohesive, and while I would overall say the JH13FP was probably the "better" IEM by a small margin, I thought the ASG-2 offered a significantly better value. My mom later said that of all the things she listened to, there were only two that she felt pretty confident she would own in the future: the Woo Audio WA7, and the ASG-2. I was looking around trying to get a feel for pricing before we'd even left Atlanta, if that tells you anything. The ASG-2 is an IEM that needed to be made, and I'm glad it was.

It's an interesting comment. I wonder if he knew that the BA's only complement the highs and not the mids.

And Theogenes, a lot of companies offer discounts at the meet. Usually those deals end when they pack up and leave the meet. If you're trying to get that discount you're gonna need to contact Aurisonics directly and see if that is still in play. Good luck with your purchasing and happy listening

Kenman, I have reached out to Aurisonics this evening, so we'll see how it shakes out. Also, the comment about the clarity of the mids and highs was mine, not a quotation of someone else's. Dale said the ASG-2 does not have a crossover, meaning the signal is not divided up and sent to specific drivers, so I believe the BA drivers can impact the mids. Naturally, I'm willing to recant if mistaken, but I believe this to be the case.

Can't wait to actually get a pair of these... I'm hoping they'll be the jack-of-all-trades I'm looking for. None of my current IEMs has quite what I need, and I'm thinking these may be the ticket...

Theo - wondering if you can comment on soundstaging on the ASG-2. I know auditory memory is rather faulty, but perhaps some very general impressions might do. In terms of size, imaging etc.

My apologies, but the material I listened to wasn't really well suited to evaluating soundstage and it's honestly not something I typically pay much attention to, so I don't really have any useful information to offer here. Wish I could be of more help! I can say that they did a pretty fantastic job with texture and detail though. I know some have said that the detail levels aren't extraordinary, and in comparison to other top-notch IEMs that I'm unfamiliar with that might be the case, but I found them to be rather exceptionally resolving. They were at least on par with the Fischer DBA-02 Mk.II and easily superior to the Sennheiser IE8. I'm a bit of a stickler for detail retrieval and a clear sound, and I think the ASG-2 was excellent in this regard. I hope to have a pair sooner rather than later so I can answer any questions anyone has .

Thanks for the attempt anyway, it's much appreciated. Exceptionally resolving sounds good to me. I'm probably going to wind up with three phones after all of this is over and off the rest of my stuff as its not being used

This thread needs more pics!  For those who've been wondering what an ASG-2 looks like in real life - here's a non-rendered image for reference :)

Yeeeeep, I'm gonna be doing my paint mod on these babies...

Sounds in general aren't tuned for soundstage...  There are specific albums out there that are used for that, but it's actually quite a rarity nowadays.  Most soundstage you'll hear with a pair of headphones is artificially generated (not always a bad thing).  Separation and imaging is a different story though
