Done that. Had a complete 24K gold plated shell and covers on display at NAMM as well as a Black Chrome set done the same way. Yes we did it to get peoples attention and it did.  We have requests from all sorts of people for crazy options. The sky is the limit.
 
I must say Heir does a great job, we merely take different paths with different processes and mateirals and sound sig. As we say in Ameirca "different strokes for different folks".

I had a Heir Audio 4.A.. never entirely got along with the tuning, but the build was first class.. as beautiful as it was tough.  The acrylic they used felt high grade.  The AS-2 demo I auditioned briefly last year had chrome plating and it was equally impressive.  The AS-2 demo felt more 'substantial' as I held it in my palm, though.. and not just because it was larger in physical size.

[size=10pt]We had around 2000 artist, audiophiles, and retailers demo the ASG-2 stealth and new ASG-1 Rev1.3 at NAMM. It was really awe inspiring to hear people say how they had went around and tried the competitions products and how blown away they were by the way ours look and sound. The number one question when people walk up is, "what makes yours different from everyone else's?" I or my team would grin and then help the person fit the ASG-2 properly with the correct tips for them and demo music. Once they were done I would ask them the same question. I will say we got a lot of sales and new dealers at NAMM from around the globe as well as some other interesting visits.[/size]

These Iems are really promising. I wish we had some comparising on reference Iems (334, 1plus2, etc) and CIEMs (miracles, se5, heir, 335, etc). I guess I ll get a pair to compare myself !

That sounds good Mimouille . I look forward to those comparisons. Soundbear will also be comparing the 1Plus2s to his ASG2s. This should be very interesting .

I've never had an unpleasant moment dealing with your company, and the big guy - Dale - definitely listens. And if he doesn't agree with a thought, or how something may work, he'll be patient in giving you the proof and letting you listen so that you can "hear" it another way. If your suggestion is on point, he'll tweak his products to incorporate that idea. It's good to see some companies on head-fi who are not just in it to move mass amounts of products to sell, but have people who enjoy this hobby and way of life just as much as we do. It's exciting times to be in this hobby (as my wallet looks at me sideways and curses at me). lol

On a more serious note, when you introduce variations and versions which add complexity several things happen.  It's not just a matter of time and materials, it's also that the possibility of error goes up.  This adds real costs. We all hope that the error rate is low, and precautions are taken, but reality is that materials fail, and people can make mistakes.
 
Also, you have to inventory more parts/materials/versions, and that adds costs.  Lastly, there is also the opportunity cost, in that the time spent on the customizations could have been spent building others pairs of iems instead- and that cost has to be accounted for as well.
 
At the end of the day, I personally don't get the whole 'aesthetics' thing- but that's just my  opinion.  Whatever makes you happy - just remember special treatment costs more precisely because 'you' are not entitled to it.

This - exactly.  i had something else typed up but this fits what I wanted to say.  Has anyone taken the time to email Dale and ask if there are other options available for those who may not be interested in the frosted shell but can't necessarily afford the listed aesthetics?  He's said they have a multitude of options and their website does as well so I'm just curious as to whether anyone has checked into this.  You just don't know until you ask.  
 
In my brief opinion: if you're going to make the jump to getting a custom anything - be it in ear monitors, work to your car/house, a piece of art, etc. you know that you're already going to be paying more both for the materials and the labor involved.  It's something made specifically for you and that takes time, effort and a personal investment from the person (or people) doing the work.  Aesthetics are one part of a custom set of iem's and for me personally, I did some aesthetics (what I could afford) because I wanted something a little different/unique.  Could I get what I really wanted?  Sadly, no, but it wasn't enough to stop me from getting a set. My main reason for getting customs was to have something made for me and for my ears.  While plenty of other folks will have the AS-2, the set that I get will have been made just for me and that is just a really cool thought.

On a side note, can people please post some pictures of how they use their Aurisonics gear? I hate seeing the Heir Audio products in the recent images in this thread section.
