Right now I figure why mess with the pads anyway when I'm applying a bunch of eq

Sound quality is exceedingly more complex than just the frequency response (which EQ adjusts, to a limited degree), that's why.

Can you explain further what the pads affect aside from FR

Measurable traits like decay behaviour (transient response, as some like to call it, just more objective and measurable), harmonic distortion, and aggressive peaks/dips that are impossible to be surgically corrected by parametric equalization but which are easily smoothed out via earpad correction (and other types of damping mods that are possible). Subtler but equally as important traits like 3D imaging, "openness" of the sound, are also affected as I intend.

The effect of simple EQ on the sound is just scratching the surface basically. You get somewhere with it definitely, but it's like trying to save a cancer patient with CPR.

Thanks! Based on what I heard today, I will mostly likely upgrade to a 500 with your pads someday.

so I just finished going through this entire thread, started way back In july.

I think there were 1-2 people that had an HE-5LE that tried them, kothganesh being one (but I believe he sold his pair) - ask around over on the HE-5LE thread.

true enough

I might get around to it later today
