Went to a store and listened to the Bero770s, the 16 and 80 ohm version. The 80s certainly need an amp, the 16s had improved bass over my M50x with HM5 pads, but wasn't too impressed with comfort. And they weren't quite as clear as the M50x to me, at high volume.

Went home: Put the stock pads back on the M50x, and had another listen. The bass was significantly improved, however I still had to have it 90-100% volume to really FEEL it, at which point my ears were bleeding from the piercing treble.

Also, they were uncomfortable after 15 mins, damn near unwearable after an hour.




Sony MDR-1A ordered!

I guess for my ears, at this time, just prefer the damn sound - especially driven by an iPhone or MBP.

At the very least, I have a decent out-and-about pair for the long term, though they don't isolate as well as the death-clamp M50x's.

Incredibly comfortable. I've been listening for 2-3 hour sessions with ease. The sound signature is great for me. Great balance and awesome bass!
