The Audeze LCD-2 Ortho thread (New)

Actually don't mind the stock HE-500/5/6 cable definitely better overall than the first LCD2 cables that used the thick Canare cable and black Neutrik ends, the cable weighed alot and over a period of usage the braid heatshrinked in with the jacks would splice and loosen itself out.

Anyone here with the 2.2 and the "vegan" pads? I'm interested to know what people who compared both the leather and "vegan" versions think in terms of SQ differences. I should mention I am not bothered at all by the comfort of the LCD-2s, I was just sent the "vegan" pads version by mistake...

Supposedly less bass compared to the leather pads due to the seal. Vegan pad's also accumulate all the sweat and dust over period of time, washing will be a pain, leather pads on the other hand > just wipe it down and you're all set.

Dang I thought vegan pads would be an upgrade..

They are if you think the LCD-2 is bass heavy   For an example this is the effect of pleather v velour on the HE-500...

That's pretty drastic.  Will the LCD-2 respond the same way?  Who knows.

I just pulled the trigger on some LCD-2 Rev 1s.  Hopefully I don't stop listening to my JH16s now.  Cant wait til they get here!

Many report no detrimental change to SQ using vegan pads.

And the whole vegan pads accumulate dust and sweat over time is so very exaggerated.

I'm not sure what challenges Def faces, but washing the pads isn't really alllll that hard at all.

It is hard for someone who lives in a dusty state here. I wouldn't find what I said about accumulating dust and sweat over time exaggerating at all, everybody's head is different, use it for different applications, gaming, movies or just pure music listening. Also you can't deny the fact that wiping down the leather pad's is a lot more easier and convenient than having to wash the pads and then using some double sided tape to stick the pads back on, I know some people who take their vegan pads off every 3-4 months to wash it from sweat buildup, again depends on the person I guess. (Not to mention dandruff as well)

The vegan material looks and feels significantly better than the leather on the LCD-2, IMO. Not so much with the Zebrawood of the LCD-3.

I agree also, would be cool if they had black vegan pads rather than the ugly brown, but for me at least I'm just hot headed cannot wear mine with Vegan pads for more than 20 minutes.

Specifying makes much more sense than making sweeping generalizations.

Sure wiping down the leather is easier, but washing the vegans is not much harder.

I live in a cold, dry climate during winter and perhaps it's not much of a big deal for me. My ears get warm with leather, but with the vegan
they are completely cool and comfy.

Well each persons post here is voiced by only of their own opinion and/or experience so I don't see how my original post made it seem that I was making a generalisation for the rest, other's that have provided their opinion here when vegan's first became available had the same experience, I think spinxvc was one of the first to state they he noticed less bass with the vegan's on and kept his head quite warmer (I could be wrong as it was a long while ago).

I think with some people's ear's getting warmer comes down to the seal of the leather pads and the position they wear the headphones, some people claim the sound is more forward and open if you wear the headphones with the headband more forwards leaving a small gap at the back of your ears, my LCD's sit directly on top of my head so a seal is quite tight around my ear's creating a vacuum effect if I push the driver inwards when listening to music. The vegan material surface doe not create the same seal as the leather pads do.

No, I actually like the brown. It looks great.

From my perspective it seemed you were really harpin' on the vegan pads. I only say it was exaggerated because of many years with the HD650 and no problems with the velour padding.

And you're right, Sphinx did try out both pads. And to give context to this part of the discussion Sphinx found the vegan pads
to be better in every way save for bass.

And his real point was there's a reason they don't sell LCD-3 pads to LCD-2 owners. IIRC.

From what I've experienced and read most don't or haven't noticed a change. But that's all YMMV, etc.

I don't feel a seal at all with LCD-2 pads, not when directly compared to, say, LCD-3.

But my experience is they feel the 'same' on the head as far as fit. The vegans feel noticeably cooler and less firm,
they're overall super comfy to my ears and head.

I still don't think the upkeep of velour pads is all that bad and that was my point.

Well the clamp force on the LCD's are bit more stronger than the HD650 (comfortable as hell) so not sure if that is a fair comparison. I personally don't mind the Vegan pads except that my ear's can't stand them after half an hour or so, I guess I have skin reactions to the vegan pads where others have it against the leather pads, oh and fyi I get my head shaved bald now and then and no I ain't some bald pops.
