The PANASONIC RP-HTF600-S headphones. More fun than the HD650?

Hi all,

I have the Panny's and enjoy them. I'm running a p-51, and would like just a bit more low bass, though for vocal trance. I'm not looking for bloated mid bass, and not looking for phones that will make my ears bleed.

Saying that, how does the Shure 750dj's compare to the Panasonic's?

I never bought the Shure DJ headphones but if anything they SHOULD be more "clear" in the upper end (i.e. more sparkle in the highs and upper-mids, that's if they follow their other cans which I have tried and bought).

A lot of members seem to recommend the M-Audio Q40s as a basshead headphone but good sounding all over the spectrum. Again, have not tried them.

If you have the dough, you could just jump straight into the Denon D5000. It will not only provide a great amount of bass but will also provide good sounding mids and highs (with sparkle!), great soundstage and unmatched comfort...

yo yo yo guys.

so far im really liking these htf600 cans, but is the isolation/sound leakage really bad ?

and if so, can it be fixed by closing the vents on the sides (completely) and how does that change the sound quality ?

if it gives less leakage and better isolation..hell its like having open and closed headphones in one ! would be awesome lol :)

I don't know if it's already been said here before but I wanted to share a tip for these. I just installed the Beyer velour pads on the RP-HTF600-S's. It is MUCH, MUCH easier to install the pads while the headphone is fully disassembled, with the driver part separated from the rest of the headphone.

The pads go on the driver part, so just take the headphones apart and put the pads on the driver part then put them together. Very easy. Otherwise getting those pads on is a real pain.

I vented half of the hole with the cloth over it while they were open. Dampened the drivers with some stick-on felt while leaving the vent holes on the driver uncovered. The venting gives these more soundstage and a tad bit of reverb which makes them a little warmer sounding. Pleasantly warm. Some people may wish to dampen the inside chamber of these after venting them to reduce the reverb from the venting. I like the change as is, they're warm and soothing.

I bought the 600s from Amazon for 29.95, burned em for 30hr with sweep tones and am now listening on my good old Fuze. I have let 3 friends listen to them and all 3 ordered a pair.
My personal feeling are the sound is very clear and allows me to really hear the air around instruments I have not heard since my unfortunate break from hi-fi. The sound seems to improve as I listen to them. The most amazing thing is my wife who hates cans, loves them!
I tried my PA2v2 and they will play very loud but the fuze gets them loud enough for my taste.
I am more a speaker guy than cans, but I do really listen to these a lot. Note to self, get the dmn Beyer cushions. I am in TX, nuff said.
If they don't make you smile, I bet someone will gladly give you what you paid for them.

Got them and gave them a listen out of the box. Sounds a bit "lightweight" in overall balance but will burn them in a bit to see if things change for the better. It just doesn't have the "pop" on Infected Mushroom that it does on the HD650s.

[06/13/2012 Update]
Sounds a bit more "fuller" now that it's been broken in about 20 so hours. Still has a ways to go but "Army of Mushrooms" sounds really nice on it now and can hear the potential to open up more.

So after 8 months i got them back in a box and Panasonic Texas didn't fix them. I knew i should have gone to Amazon instead but for the lulz i wanted to see if how warranty process would go down. They sent me a letter asking me what i wanted to do with the phones about half a year later, gee IDK man i sent the warranty card, proof of purchase and paid for return shipping what did you think i wanted you to do? Then they come with this BS of the model not being available anymore

Since i have the Ultrasones now and Monoprice $20 cans for portability along with the KSC75 it was no biggie really. If they didn't make the most awesome plasmas around i'd probably put Panasonic on the black list.

Also there's HTF-560 which are equal, didn't they have any of those either or probably whoever handled it didn't know of them lol.

I have to back Kerry56 on this. The HTF600 have a horrible midrange and muddy bass. Trying to watch a movie on them was an exercise in frustration. I would recommend iBuds over the HTF600 for someone looking for a cheap pair of earphones.

Right side gone on mine like there's no singal reaching them thats about 6 months use decent cans though shame mine broke just through general usage could be the cable came loose though i guess

They are a good cheap can but yea better cans have more detail you can spot it immediately after using the htf600 for a while .

Am now on my brand new backup set goldring dr150 and they are miles better tbh but I still like the panasonics sound sig it's pretty beefy.

Is it completely silent or just very muted? It seems to be a common thing that the driver gets stuck into wrong position so you have to "blow" it back into position and it should then make an audible "click" when putting them back onto the head.

My favorite thing about my HTF-600's are the Beyer pads - which are now useless.

Mine have some kind of short that makes music sound hollow and echo-ee with some missing instruments from the mix - even though both speakers play. It's weird. They aren't worth the trouble to fix, though. I don't feel too bad because they were inexpensive, but it's still $35 (not counting the velour pads) wasted. My Koss UR55's were a much better buy - you can feel the superior build quality in them and they sound better too.

Sounds like a problem with the plug or cable. That sound you describes sounds like a sound you can reproduce by SLIGHTLY pulling a headphone plug out of a headphone jack.

In either case, simply recabling them should fix this, I believe.
