Cable hipster?
You must have some incredibly sensitive portable rig or a hell of an imagination...

Both... but it's what I hear... and I'll stand by it.  I don't believe the really expensive Boutique Cables are worth it.  I do believe that there is legitimacy in different cables though.  My rig is Ok, definitely not sensitive to any dramatic degree.... but I've been known to drink the cool-aid.  This is why DIY is always the way I go.  ... and yes, I still believe the FiiO LODs offer the separation and what not... but my DIY stuff does that, and offers better Bass and seems like fuller sound.   ...then again, not the point of this thread... so I'll stop... and continue to drink the DIY Cool-Aid.

This is my current portable rig, iPod Classic > CmoyBB v 2.03 > V-Moda V-80.  I have to say I'm impressed with how it all sounds, and the V-Moda case works perfectly for carrying everything

A good DAP makes some difference although small, a good mobile amp paired with the DAP definitely makes a difference, a high end 100 plus LOD....yeah OK whatever floats your boat. I'll keep my 100 plus bones in my pocket and buy a well built Fiio LOD for under 30 bones thank you very much. Of coarse if anyone out there thinks they hear a difference then more power to them.

After months of pestering Headfi members and what feels like endless googling, I've finally got my first audiophile setup. Extremely happy with it!

*chuckle* If they are a pair of M2C they are nothing to laugh at. They look like *****, but I got a pair of them last week. Best $50 I ever spent. Extremely detailed, massive soundstage, (a tad under-bassy, but nothing a little tweak in Rockbox won't fix)....to the point where I packed my Grado SR325is away carefully to save wear on them being carted to work every day and use the Blox all the time...

Yeah I skipped between a few amps before settling on the C421, it seemed to have the idea mix of price/performance ratio and physical dimensions- it's practically the same size in every direction as the 80GB Video so the whole thing fits nicely in my pocket when stuck together with low profile Dual Lock tape. I just opted for the OPA2227, going by the love/hate description on JDS's website I didn't want to risk paying through the nose for something I wouldn't enjoy then having to ship it all the way back to the states!

You can get a high end LOD for a realtively small amount of money. Thats what DIY is for.
