I am on a trip for 10 days with a group of kids from my college, and one of them has a pair of beats solos. He has been bragging them up a decent amount, and was saying how they were even as "good" as bose

.......Today I was showing someone else some music on my ultrasone hfi-780s and he commented that they were the best sounding headphones that he had ever heard. The guy with the beats then proceeded to come over and choose one of his favorite songs, listened to half of it on the 780s, and then told me and everyone else around that his beats solos sounded way better than the ultrasones

 .....Oh people....... haha

The usual. There's a challenge I think we should start issuing these people who claim their Beats are much better than anything else. They try both and get to keep whichever they like most. The only problem is, half those idiots only really care about their looks (sometimes, by own admission) and would keep their Beats; and obviously if you were right, you had just traded your sweet 'phones for crap just to prove point. So it's not a perfect system... but I am certain we would have a of people taking HFI-780s and DT-770s over the Beats.

Today I went and looked at some HP laptops that had Beats Audio. Taking a look at their audio settings...And I noticed that their equalizer couldn't go past 1kHz. Then again, maybe I missed a scroll bar or something but if it really just cuts off at 1kHz...That's pathetic.

(FYI, I have one of the older HP laptops that doesn't have Beats Audio.)

I've owned 2 of their laptops with Beats audio and as long as you don't fiddle with the stupid 'Beats' settings it sounds fine.

Just head right over to Foobar and use a real EQ.

How is the hp running for you. I personally would never buy anything hp. Had or seen to many bad experiences with their products.

Beats Audio actually actively sabotages the EQ when it's not activated. Without BA enabled, the EQ is flat right? After enabling BA (boosting treble and bass slightly) and then disabling it, instead of going back to flat the EQ has reduced bass and treble, leading to a hollowed sound.

All this just to scam users A/Bing Beats Audio to the normal settings that Beats Audio 'magically' makes the sound better :<

Being in sales and computer repair I see quite a few laptops in and out of the shop. Most of them are the companies you never really hear of anymore. Compaq, Lenovo, Gateway...and surprisingly Dell.

I've only had 1 problem with the 3 HPs I've owned. One of their screens died. The repair process was an absolute pain and I should've just bought the LCD and replaced it myself.

My best suggestion is to buy high end HP or not at all. The DV 7 I owned was amazing and did a great job. The G4 I owned was the one with a bad screen and the keyboard was terrible and build quality overall was a huge step down from my DV7. Then again my girlfriend has a 3 year old HP that she tears up and it still works like a charm (although it's missing the CD drive cover and some chinks of plastic).

My favorite brand is Toshiba to be honest. Build quality is a cut above from what I've seen and I see them in the shop the least.

Oh and my HP Printer works great still, and while their build quality is a little below some of the others their ink cost is the lowest of the ink jets out there, and they get the job done. Plus their 02 printers print fabulous photos to rival Epson.

Running pretty smoothly actually. No real issues except for the battery dying. And that was remedied quickly with a nice extended battery that makes the thing last longer than a MacBook. 5-6 hours of constantly playing music. The built in 10-band EQ is pretty nice too, IDT Audio actually works for the most part. I might go and also toss in Kubuntu for good measure. If you'll recall though with the EQ...

I got a Toshiba Tecra thats more than 6 years old and it runs perfectly fine on linux, the only thing that failed so far is the CD drive and it was only temporary. Definitely well build IMO.

Looks like theres going to be a lot more Beats around this holiday
